• Anyone else do the 97-02 to a 93-96 tail light conversion?

I jsut did it tonight, very easy so far, just need to do the wiring, I did it after I got out of class, I had to modify the sockets a little but very easy, and still on very tight.

I still need to to the wire mod, but I am so happy to ditch that ugly *** amber and have the tail light follow the lines of the car.

BTW what seems to be the going rate for set of good 97+ tail lights?

Jack right now, I've had a harness and set of lights for a 97+ forever. I think I'm just gonna ebay it.

You know, I never really looked at the difference before. Yes, the 93-96 are much better.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I noticed it the day my dad bought the 2k, and I got the 94 off of him. I hated it but as usual was too lazy to do it. The lines of the reverse light on the 93-96 car follow the lines of the hatch and rear end while the 97+ don't.

I picked up a set of perfect 93-96 lights for $27 shipped($15+12) on ebay, modifiying the socket reciever was a cinch, and they work great now but to work 100% like a 93-96 car just have to jump a wire.

btw more info on the swap

Hmm I had to buy a new socket with 2 leads, the one inner socket only had one lead so I had to get a new one to be able to use it as a running light and a turn signal....all it would do before is function as a turn signal....then I jumped a running lighth wire off another one and fed it to the low light side of the new socket....how are you doing it????

              Well what I did....

Is when you get to the turn signal socket, take the bulb out, and you will see there are 2 parts to the socket, a inner(tan) and an outer(gray) There are 2 little clips push them in and pop out the Inner tan socket.

Where the wires go in there is a socket A, B, and C, A and C are already used with wires, there is only a plug for Socket B, take the rubber plug out(keep it), and get a wire, strip like 2 in. off the tip, loop it around, jam it in the socket, firmly. Then take the inner socket part and plug it back in, it has 3 spikes on the bottome that conect the circuit, this olds the wire in securely. Then cut the rubber "plug" in half, you will see its exactly like the other groommets, just it has a plug on the end, run the wire through it and use it as a grommet, this keeps water out and secures it even more. Then I used a Wire tap in, to tap it into the the brown wire off the tail lights which is the "headlight" bulb, this is the circuit that is alwasy on when the headlights are on.

              Put it all back together...

Now, So when my headlights are on, all the bulbs are lit up. When my turn signal is on the left one is "brightens" for the turnsignal, and when I hit the brakes the middle one "brightens" for the brakes.

All our clearly visible, only difference is the turn signal is on low light(same as other 2) when the headlights are on.

I have thought about connecting the turnsignal and brake light, so when you are stopping, both light up bright, and when you have the turn signal on both light up the same. But I figured this would cause problems, because you wouldn't know if I had my turn signal on while I was stopping.

I was thinking of running a diode inline, so that both light up when my turn signal is going but when I am braking only the brake light lights up, and if braking and have my signal on the brake light woudl be on and the signal would still flash.

              Not sure yet.

When I first saw the 97+ lights I didn't like'em either, but now I do and when I see just the red and white, it looks dated. Like putting salad shooters on a 98+. Not that it's going to change your mind.... :D

Of course not, I love them, and I just flat out hate the color amber! 1st mod I bought my car, was a set of clear corners, but I am too lazy to get some nice LED bulbs for them so I haven't put them in yet. But I hate amber on NBM. On my 85 Camaro, I hated any amber on it and I blacked it all out.
