  • Anyone ever detail the engine?

OK, it's a known fact that a cleaner engine increases the value of your car, not to mention it impresses the judges. But I've seen people do it several ways and I was wondering if anyone has a good way about doing it. I'm a bit hesitant on spraying it with a hose, even though you can use plastic bags to cover the electrical parts. Has anyone ever tried detailing their engine, and if so, do you mind telling me some of the tricks to it?

you can spray it with water. just cover it with bags like you said. just do it when your car has been driver and it will dry faster, or just dry it with a rag. it also helps to do it on a hot day, and run your car after you clean it. or just pay for a steam cleaning.. but i doubt youd wana pay for that ;)

After cleaning if you have any problems get a can of wd40 and spray it down.

I used simple green with a toothbrush and on the block and valve covers I used Black Magic 2-in-1 engine degreaser and shine. Then I use a cup and pour it over it to rinse it. I didn't have to cover up anything. On the apron(shock tower) I use some paint cleaner to clean it up, then I apply some wax. On the rubber hoses, black tubings, and black plastics (like the intake) I used 303 on it. Nice and clean :D

cd2 stuff is wonderful. try to cover up all the electrical parts really well. for another neat trick under the hood, take some high grit sandpaper and some aluminum polish and shine up your brake lines. i even polished out my alternator, but i believe that nikon beat me to that. for all the tight corners and crevaces i use a pencil with a rag over it, that works great for me. replacing your wire looms will help a bit too. dont forget to use some sort of armour all stuff on your plastic parts.

While I really didn't get around to doing much in the acutal engine bay last year, I did get my engine painted.

This should look pretty good once I get the rest of the engine bay detailed. (Sorry, no pics of the engine in the car yet)
