I wouldn't do anything too flashy just because you can't really bost all that much seeing as though you do have break drums in the back :(

how would you go about polishing them?

I have a drill can I just go buy the polishing bits?

Just get one of those big round wheels that sound paper sticks to (dont know the name and Im too tired to think of a better way to describe it) then get to work. You will need a fairly fine grit sandpaper because the metal is pretty soft, then just take some polishing compound ( I like Mothers Aluminum polish) and start rubbing it on until you get the bling bling look you want.

Warning, this takes a whole day to do.
