  • My front end conversion (SS hood/spoiler) 97 to 98+

Well earlier this year I got in an accident (not my fault FYI).

I figured as long as the front end parts need to be replaced might as well do a front end conversion. So after much searching I found all the parts got the car converted in 1-2 hours, luckily the guy I was getting parts from was parting out his entire car cause several parts needed to be replaced that aren't part of the conversion, some front brackets, the hood hinges because they were damaged. Got all the parts on but just barely, my car has frame damage.

As you can see the parts aren't lined up to well frankly I'm suprised they got on at all, the bumper as far forward as it could go and several other parts are at maximum tolerances just to fit it together, my frame looks like a sine wave instead of being flat.

Also just a FYI, the front bumper impact material is pretty worthless unless your running into a poll or wall, I hit a camry not exactly a raised vehicle and my car slid right under hers and instead of hitting the impact material it hit my frame. I still have my front impact thing looks brand new not bent or broke in the least cause the car slid right over it and into the frame and radiator support. Her insurance most definetly will be paying for the frame damage, they already lowballed me with a $1700 estimate for just the external damage not taking into account any frame damage even though estimates I got were $2200-2400 (For a 97 front end repair as is).

You can do the conversion with a 94' only difference really is that my 97 came stock with the rear brake lights in the newer style. It really is pretty easy, it may take you longer if you don't have power air tools GM seems to enjoy loading bolts onto everything and in odd spots. Other then that it's really pretty quick switch out a few parts and its done. I found parts from a guy that was completely dis-assembling and selling his 94 or 95, 11 second LT1 camaro to put money into his vette which he'd like to get into the 10's. Lucky really it is expensive though I doubt you could find a deal like what I did, probably looking at $1800-2500 for parts alone used.

I'll leave that to the body shop, when they fix the frame of my car that should help a lot then they can line it up good and paint it and what not.

So was it hard to bolt in to the front of your 97 or did you have to have mounts from the other car? Particularly on the headlights.

Well yea some brackets have to come off the 98+ as well for the lights, 97 use a light bar thing (which on my car was cracked in half FYI) that comes out along with 2 other brackets that hold it and are replaced by 2 other brackets which hold the lights.

All that got replace on mine were 2 fenders, front bumper cover, bumper impact/support, 2 brackets for the lights, hood. I also replaced the hood hinges and bumper support pieces but they were part of the conversion they were just to badly damaged.

Just wanted to say doing this has given me a case of ricer. Even though my car is just as slow as before I think it's faster or better and drive faster/harder since I can see the SS scoop from the inside and SS spoiler in the rear view mirror.
