  • do tints get darker after time?

wow, haven't posted in a while... dumb question- but do tints get darker after a period of time... I had my tinting done with 35 on the sides and 20 in the back about a little over a year ago. They actually did look like a 35/20 job--- now just recently, I got pulled over for tinting and the officer said my tints were too dark--- he was a cool guy though, he was in the military like myself, I told him about my tints and that I did have 35 side and 20 back... he checked it out on his machine and he said I had a 25 on the side which is definitely illegal, but he just let it pass... I dunno what to say, but do tints get darker after time?

if you had a low quality window film then the dye that is in the tint will eventually go away making it purple looking...ive been tinting windows for 4 years now and never heard of tint getting darker...

There are many variables to the tint meter reading what it did. First of all, the stock windows have a slight tint in it that varies. And two his meter can be off. I had 35% on my sides and my rang up 24% on the tint meter.

Exactly what has happened most vehicles have a 70%tint from the factory and add that on top of the aftermarket it WILL read darker. had this happen to me on my s series a few years back I forgot to add in the factory tint and got nailed at like 24% then I switched to pure clear windows on the side with the same 35%(same roll) and got measured at 36% so yes it does make a difference

It should have come like this from the factory. The thing is that some places tint differently, and the end result will show. Some places tint all the way up the back glass over the raised bubbles on the upper part of the glass. I had this done on my first camaro and I liked it better than what I have on my Z now. The thing is taht i had to work it with a credit card alot right after i had it done so that it would stick. Now on my Z the tint shop stopped the tint before the bubbles. Less work for them and they save tint, time, and money.

If you get the back glass done, get it as dark as you possibly can.
