I know this probably sounds like a stupid question, but if it's something obvious im not seeing it. I'm trying to remove the area of the console thats around the shift knob that snaps out (on a '94 camaro, if that makes any difference) because I'm going to paint it to match the rest of my interior I've done. It's a simple matter of snapping the piece out and slipping it up over the shifter....if it wasn't for the knob. I know some of you guys out there have replaced the shift knob with a custom one, so how did you get the factory one off?

Put the ebrake on, put the car in low. Behind the shifter you'll see a C-clip. Get a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out... Should be easy from there.New:04 GMC Sierra 1500 RCLB 4x4 5.3 GU80 3.73\'s.
Truck pics
Mods
Go fast: Panel K&N filter and soon SS truck catback.
Appearance: Stull Billet grill,Weston Chrome step tubes,Rhino Chrome hitch step,ARE painted fiberglass cover,Silver star lighting.

What he said, there's a clip in the bottom portion of the shift knob facing the radio. It's not really shaped like a c-clip, when you take it out, it looks more like a thick staple from a staple gun. I had to use a hook to get mine out. Needle nose pliars might do it, but if not, try a hook or a very small flat screw driver to get it out enough to grab it. Like he said, should be easy from there.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

I have a leather knob but don't have to undo the leather to get it off...
Just do what they said, turn the ignition key forward a bit, then you should be able to put the shifter into 1st gear, and on the back of the knob you sould see a slot where the clip is. I use a small flathead screwdriver to get it out.2000 White Firebird W68
A4, LSD, 3.42 gears
Flowmaster muffler, Borla tips
TA Hatch, 17\" Chrome Firehawk Wheels

Ok, I found it, and boy do I feel like an idiot. I was looking down towards the bottomw of the knob the whole time, and it was more towards the center. If I woul dhave just looked about an inch higher I would have seen it in the first place.
