This is How I go to tell the difference

"Camaro" badging on the front fender: 93-94

Salad Shooters 93-96

5 spoke Alloy wheels instead of salad shooters: 97

Older front fascia 93-97

Taillights w/ the Amber turn signal: 97+

Newer fascia 98+

I use those in combination to try to narrow it down

I use the same method as Mike. Some years, you can tell for sure (97 with new taillights, wheels, and old front end) and others you just have to narrow it down.

Man im surprised mustangeater hasnt chimed in here crying saying how his 3.4 beats so many 3.8 since someone commented about the 3.8 going faster than the 3.4. I find it hilarious he says his 3.4 runs faster than his dads 3.8 of course he has just about every mod imaginable and his dads 3.8 is stock and spins the tires off the line, i bet if the 3.8 caught traction it would blow his heavily modded 3.4 away

A good way I usually tell is if they have DRL's (daytime running lights) if they do it is a 3.8 unless they did the mod

When did they start painting the Camaro side mirrors body color? That would be another thing to look at. And is there any visual clues to determine if an early 4th gen Firebird is 3.4 or 3.8? The Camaro has the fender lettering that pretty much separates the two, but how about the Firebird?

My brother has salad shooters on his 97 V6 Camaro vert. Were they an option or standard in 97?

And yes, he has rear drums.

On the 95+ you could have the Camaro side mirrors body color. You could have it done by factory. I didn't think anyone even noticed the little "Camaro" sign on the fenders! DARN PEOPLE OUT THERE NO ABOUT!!!!!

Ok, 97s are easy to pick out. LT1 style Amber in the tail lights, newer interior and wheels.
3.4s could have the wheel covers. I don't think any 3.8s had them stock.
93-94 3.4s have the word "CAMARO" on fenders.
All 3.4s had drum brakes in back. No Y87 3.4, this means no dual exit mufflers.
All stock RS cars were 3.8
Gages on 93s were yellow
3.4 Speedos read to 110 and 3.8s read to 120. Also, 3.8 redline is higher on the tach.
Other then that, alot of paint colors were added and dropped throughout the early years.
The only year that is hard to tell is 95. There was no Y87 in 95, no RS, and no "CAMARO" on the fenders.
