  • When using a claybar...

I'm going to wax my car this weekend and was wondering, when you claybar, it's unecessary to use a cleaner wax right? I was thinking claybar and then a coat of NXT right after? Is that right?

Its recommended to use a cleaner wax after the claybar. The clay bar removes contaminants, but the cleaner wax will make sure that you have a good base.

The clay bar I had bought said keep surface moist with a spray wax when using the clay bar... This was meguiars though. And when it got dry, it was very hard to rub the clay bar over the surface.

Oh, by the way, I felt the clay bar was a waste of money, and that a bottle of rubbing compound and then some good wax after did just as good of a job in half the time.

Way Zaino reccomends, is washthe car with dawn to get alot fo the oils and contaminants off, then go over it with a highly concentrated solution of carwash and water in a spra bottle to keep the claybar lubricated.

Then wash the car again and add a wax.

Its true you do not have to use a cleaner wax after you claybar, but you can and 99% of the stuff you pic up at autozone is a cleaner wax.

            1) Wash car extremely well with dish soap
            2) Little soap in a spray bottle w/ water, and claybar the whole thing
            3) Wash car with dish soap again
            4) Apply your wax

be careful with that much dish soap. ive heard that in large amounts it will soften up your clearcoat.

clay bars are the best thing ever! little contaminants in the paint might come up with some rubbing compound, but that is an abrasive. clay bar just lifts it right up. for a lot of different problems with the paint, nothing will ever beat a clay bar.

and guys, all you need to do to use it is get a 50 50 car wash soap and water mix in a spray bottle. wash the car once with car wash soap and dry it. spray the 5050 mix on a small area, rub the clay over lightly, dry the area, and repeat over the whole car. i usually to one more quick wash and dry over the car and then wax the car however you see fit.

I suppose I was expecting the clay bar to take spots and noticeable imperfections out of the paint, but it doesnt unless you scrub for like an hour. Maybe the best bet is a rubbing compound for the heavy crap followed by a clay bar. Whoops, sorta running away with your topic here, sorry.

no no, keep going. I have dirt etched into my clear coat and it almost seems like I need to wet sand it to get that **** out.
