• would this look alright

my car is red and i want to get it repainted. it will be the same color but intead of getting the headlight area and grill area repainted black, i want to get those painted red also. once those are red, i want silver racing stripes. i have a 96 if i hadn't mentioned that. in my head it looks pretty cool but i dont want to do it and have it look retarded. thanks in advance for any input.

I've seen it done, i think it looks better with the headlight area left black. A LOT better.

some people like it...for me its the easiest way to tell the car got repainted...painters never leave that black its just more work...leave it black you'll be much happier

My dad is a Master Certified Automotive Painter....so i know all the little painting tricks of the trade. Painting the lamp area would look similar to what the current Corvettes look like. Compare it to that.

Also, repainting an entire car is more expensive than you think it is. Not only is it the stuff you see, its also painting the stuff you dont. Hood jams, door jams, trunk jams, all that good stuff. Racks up a lot of labor hours very fast. I suggest you get an estimate if you already havent....

No you can keep your door jams, if its the same color or even a similar color just woudl have to if you did something like paint it silver or something.

I have seen it too I don't think it looks bad, I think its a mush for 93-97 white cars but red its all just about your opinion on it, woulnd't look good or bad. As long as the paint does fade on the black(like my car did) then it would look good.

i really like the way that looks. im not worried about the jams. i dont think it will look all that bad. its going to be the same color and the jams haven't faded because the sun doesn't hit them directly.

don't sweat the jams... they will look fine, won't bee 100 % match and maybe at a super dooper car show you will not win, but I did a semi color change on a car and never did the door jams and I got nothing but compliments on it.

whenever i see a camaro with the black around the headlights painted the same color as the car, it makes me want to either puke or cry. i've seen it multiple times. one orange, one red, one blue. it all looks bad.

i like it personally but to each their own. yeah if you are painting the same color dont sweat the jams, it would just be a lot of money for little appearance differences.

If your going to be sticking to the same color, then it would be cheaper just to get it scuffed down and re-cleared. Going this route you would not have to worry about the door jambs and whatnot. More than likly its not the paint thats in shabby shape its the clearcoat. If your gonna REPAINT certain areas that have deep scratches or require more body work or replacement of panels, then re-clearing the entire car will make it blend a whole lot better. If you have seen a car thats had a panel or two re-painted/cleared and the rest of the car left alone you'll see it looks like crap. Just getting it re-cleared is alot cheaper a local body shop around here (thats very good quality and usually quite expensive) quoted me about $2500 to $3000 to repaint the same color or color change, and only $800 to $1000 to just scuff (sand) re-clear and buff the origanal finsih. You see the diffrence?

                              just my 2 cents
