• Pad on underside of hood question??

I want to paint that big pad thing thats supposed to fall if theres a fire or something, i dont know what its called, but i do know that it doesnt look good.

Can I take some of the high heat black paint I used to paint my calipers with and paint this pad thing??

Is it alright to paint it?

I'd say pull it off, 98+ cars don't have it. I have'nt heard any stories of anyone's hood pad ever stopping a fire. Anyways, if your hood's like mine you can polish it up and it looks sweet.

Has anybody heard of this actually hurting the paint if/when removed?

It's there to reduce noise from the injectors and the rushing sound from the air intake. It makes the engine run quieter.

I painted mine today and it came out pretty good.
I painted it black with some extra high heat paint i had lying around from when i did my calipers.

I plan on painting a red chevy bowtie on there either this weekend or next.

I painted mine with red model paint. It has been over a year and no fading or cracking, I dont think high temp paint is nessasary. Mine is a 99

he is correct the paint melts off or something. It was mystic teal now its a light ugly teal color just above where the exhaust manifolds would be when the hood is closed.
