  • too much wax?

I just got told by a friend that you can wax your car too much. Is this true? his reasoning is it will eventually eat your paint?? and it says on the bottle wax one a month or somethign to that appeal. To me this sounds absurd but I could be worng. I wax my car every week, sometimes once or twice a week I would be screwed like no other... any one know for sure or have reasoning like me?

I dont know if you can wax it too much but you are wasting your time and money. Your car doesnt need to be waxed every week, with meguires gold class its good up to six months. ;)

I don't think it will "eat" your paint, but I know on my truck I waxed it all the time, and I left it in the garage for two weeks, & it accumulated dust. When I got back, the dust was concreted into the wax & I had to strip it all off... That kinda sucked...

I wax mine weekly. It might last 6 months but its not flawless for 6 months and I like mine in tip top shape.

You cannot overwax your car so long you use super clean padding and a good wax without abraisives.

I dont think you can over wax. Maybe if you put wax layer upon layers. But since you wash your car (removing some wax) THEN wax. I dont think its possible.

it doesnt last that long...the water bead is already almost gone after it rains or u wash it 4-5 times...

I agree.....Ive used it and was pleased with the results, the shine is great...but it is def. not one of the longer lasting products out there

IF the wax is too abrasive then yes you could wax too much. you would eventually remove all the paint. most products are labeled as 'cleaner' wax or some such. you might need to use something like this once a year.

as for water beading, its pretty difficult to beat the durability of nu-finish paste. its synthetic. completely non abrasive (which has its downsides). cheap and easily available. it does bead for 3 months easily. i try to wax it about 4 times a year. washing in between. its pretty amazing compared to standard carnuba based waxes. perhaps not as glossy, but on pewter metallic you will never really get a 'deep' gloss finish no matter what you use. on a solid color there might be better choices.

The active ingredients that makes wax "protect" are the silicone/caranuba oils in it, which wash off after one wash or one rain.
You can't "wax too much" because it doesn't layer, you'll just have one thick wax layer on it. You will just make yourself tired by continuing to wax.
