  • Leather Seat Wiring? (help)

Ok, so we started putting my leather seats into from my firebird which had non-power interior before.

The problem we have now is that the drivers seat only has one "plug" for the seat to be plugged into, and it doesnt match up with the one on the seat. We havent done the passanger side yet, but the driver's side one only has one outlet into the car, whichd oesnt fit either from the leather seat, and two plugs to go into the car ON the seat...

I was always told these bolted right in. What's going on.

Seriously...I've had like six questions posted on here in the last two weeks, and not one of them has been answered.

Can someone help me, please, it'd be great.

Pretty sure you are out of luck. I dont think you can put those TA seats in your car. I had to find power leather seats out a firebird for mine when i changed from manual cloth to power leather. The drivers has only that one plug and the passenger doens't have one. Thats just how it is. Sorry man

I believe there is a wire harness from the Trans AM seats you are missing to merge those 2 cannon plugs under the seat to accept the one in the carpet, all 4th gen birds have the ability for power seats already built in, hence why you have the plug.

That's exactly what I thought eXzodious...

I asked the guy to throw the wiring harness in, but I'm guessing he didn't. I'll have to ask him for it.

So...am I out of of luck, or will these ones work?

I guess I can end up selling the two front seats and looking for other ones, but I suppose now I'd need to be more specific, because I've always been told they will work in any firebird, by both the auction sellers, and the guys on this board.

But what's the deal with the passanger side not having one?

What did everyone else who has power seats upgraded do for the passanger lumbar/bolster?

I can try and find you a wiring diagram, IM at work now but busy...Im sure there is a way, you may have to jury rig it though

EDIT: OK from a quick look at the wiring schematics all I could see is orange is your power and black is your ground, thats the only two power wires they show, leading to the seat, all the other wires are already ran in the seat...if I had more time I could print out the diagram and let someone else decipher it for you....Ill try

The Trans AM has passenger power seats depending on the options you pick when you buy the car new, all the birds have a cut in the carpet on the passenger side (mine has it) you might have to search for a cannon plug under there, there is a possibility GM didn't put the connector on that side because of the Firebird's options. Either way I’m sure you could find another plug from a junk yard (or the website listed below) and run it off the driver’s side. I would check this site http://www.buy-oem-parts.com/ they have a full catalog of every freaking GM part (Far more then GM Parts direct) you might just be able to find the wiring harness for the seats under the Trans AM section.

Back to Zainoing, still not done yet and it's dark out.

I'm not sure what I need to buy, though?

Edit: If someone with time on their hands would take a picture of their Trans Am or Firebird's underseat for the driver's side for a seat that has bolster, lumbar, and power track?

I don't even know what it would look like...

I have a firebird drivers side power seat, if you want i can take a picture of that plug. But i can already tell you its the same color and configuration as the one you have thats sticking out of your floor board on your car.

what i would do is just go to a scrap yard and look for a Trans Am. Then just pull the wiring that u need and then go back to your car and wire it up. I was lucky in my camaro, i change my cloth to leather from an SS. Those seats dont come with lumbar support, just the 8 way movement for the drivers side.

In the six prong connector, how many wires are actually going into the plug and what color are they?

Nikon is right about the 2 wires coming out of the carpeting. The Orange is your constant (+) and the Black is ground. I have leather seats in my 02 Firebird (drivers side is power) and the only thing hooked up to the seat was the 2-wire plug coming out of the carpeting. I also did find a "slit" in the carpeting on the passengers side. The plug for the passenger seat should be there, it may be tucked under the center council. When I took my center council out this summer to wire in a switch for my neons, I remember seeing a loose plug with a couple thick wires attached to it tucked away; that may be for a passenger power seat?. On the plug with the 'passenger' seat, how many wires are there going into the plug and what color are those?

There is a harness that connects from that white plug you have and runs to both the drivers side and passenger side. I did this same swap some time ago and bought the harness from an online parts store for 50$. I believe there is a post on ls1.com listing the part number.

I'd get the schematics from a TA and find out what each color wire does on your new seats. There's probably just a ground or two and then a bunch of positives for the different functions. Then just splice them to the + and - wires coming out of the floor. Then check for the plug on the passenger side, or just splice in a couple wires to your driver side + and -, then run those over to the passenger side under the carpet.

I see what you're saying about just connecting the + and -. this will work except for the lumbar support. The harness that i bought also includes a lumbar hose that will connect the driver side to the passenger side. You can rig the lumbar on the driver side by taping up the open hose that needs to be connected to the passenger side through the harness, but the problem is that the passenger lumbar will not work :(
