ok it looks like large grains of salt but it is stuck or baked more like it to my tips. what would be good for getting this stuff off?

To help keep your chrome tips rust free, and long lasting - ol' Hot-Rodder trick...
Use a very light coat of WD-40. The lightweight oil in the lubricant will coat the metal, resisting rust. Spray onto a rag then wipe on. Or spray directly and wipe off.<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"
