  • Clearcoat peeling

I have an 02 Camaro Monterrey Maroon color. I have had 2 seperate issues with the clearcoat peeling...on the front bumper, and now on the back. Just curious as to if anyone else with either an 02 camaro or the same color have had this problem?

Clearcoats on fbodys started peeling about a year after they made Maroon, quasar blue, black, and some sliver cars. Its delamination. It was a recall for a while, then they stopped doing the recalls. Mine is slightly delaminating also, but not bad at all.

      Take it to the dealer.

            PonyPounderV6:
I had a slight problem with the clearcoat peeling away right behind the driver's side rear wheel. There were two spots actually; however, both were no bigger than the size of a quater.
I do believe this was caused from a gasoline spill. What happened was, the very first time i put gas in my car i tried topping it off and some fuel spilled out and ran down. I thought i cleaned it up pretty good but i guess not, because i know gasoline will do this kind of damage. It was months later, after the winter had passed, that i noticed this problem.
I am very happy to say i was able to fix it myself. It really wasn't too bad, just time consuming because i took my time of course. Took me a good part of the day but it was my first time doing any kind of work like this. I talked to several body/paint specialist, and they were kind enough to take me step-by-step in the process of repairing such damage. They all pretty much told me the same thing. They also were very helpful. I was determinted to save myself some money and do the work myself. It was a good learning experience. I was surprised when it turned out as good as it did.

Take it by the dealership and see what they say. Make sure you tell them you know its a common problem.

as for TSB, I did a quick google search and came up with this

I am going to a dealership my friend works at on Friday. He's the finance manager and has a lil' pull at the dealership so hopefully we'll get this straightened out soon.

Definitley go for that... NOt sure but I woudl look into the warranty fo the paint... you know how they are usually like 3 yr 36k for the car, then they go into 7 year 70k for emission devices, for soem reason I think they have something 5yr for paint and rust prevention, not sure though.

My car is the metallic green, and it also is peeling. My dad being a painter, assumed that it had been repainted, and someone did a sh*t job sanding it beforehand. If what you guys say is true, at least ill rest well knowing that it was bound to happen.

Rest well man. Like I said I had this happened to the front bumper almost a year ago. There is some kind of rust warranty...if there are signs of any rusting underneath then I will def get it fixed by them. I also have an extended warranty with $100 deductible, but hoping I wont have to pay any out of pocket expenses. I am also worried that this will be a re-occurring problem and I'll end up having all of my clearcoat go to hell somewhere down the road.
