Hey guys,
Doing braided lines this weekend and I decided to paint the cliper as well, but is there any prep to do this, or do I just shoot them with VHT? I'm just curious, because I don't know they need to be sanded or not.
just send them to pewter2kfirebrid and ask her to do them Thats what I did. Fronts are getting done starting tomorrow so you guys will see the pics for those over the weekend

I think that I am going to do my own calipers. That would mean I wouldn't be able to drive the car if I sent them to her. :( So some day in the summer my dad and I are going to go and paint them! Is there any other help that can make these look great? Like said above do I need to polish it since mine are still silver too not rusty?
Pewter2k Formula could you give me your step by step in my email again. You did it once for my whisper lid and I understood it very well. Just send the things I will need.(Paint, tools, ect) And how I go on doing this.. I want mine to be glossy black with silver CAMARO letters, sorta like the one above..... Any help..
Your calipers are alluminum and wont rust. You might be thinking of the bracket and yes that could rust, but anyways back on topic here. All you really need to do to them is to clean them up really good. Also I would take the caliper off to paint them so you dont spray a bunch of other stuff down at the same time.

I used the polisher to clean the caliper off from rust, and dirt, i didnt polish it till it was 100% shiny and polished looking.
the purpose is to clean it off rust and dirt so paint will stay on it.. i did 3 coats of black, and 1 coat of clear coat on the whole thing.

I just noticed this but I can only put the CAMARO letters on the front Calipers? Thats weird! I always thought that they go on both front and back! I guess I was wrong! :(
Hey Pewter2k Formula, could you also email me the step by step process you used? I would greatly appreciate it. My email is GreenMaro24@yahoo.com . Thx

Well I can basically tell you all here what I did.
I cleaned the calipers/brackets with Simple Green and a toothbrush type brush that was here. I cleaned them several times with simple green and warm water. I let them dry for an hour or so then used a wire brush attachment on the dremel to remove all the rust. I also sanded off the mold line on the calipers especially for the fronts so the decals will lay flat. I used some finer sandpaper over that part to smooth it a bit then wiped the calipers/brackets down with a towel. Then I started painting.
If you're doing these on the car wrap the rotor/drum with a plastic bag going under the bracket and secure with some tape. Then tape some newspaper inside the wheel well and over the fenders. Also you'll want to tape off the brake pad with some masking tape and trim any excess with an exacto knife. Now the key is to LIGHTLY spray the caliper/bracket. Apply light coats. If you get some fisheye which does happen...where the paint appears to not stick in little circles dont worry. What I have noticed is let that dry and then lightly spray about 12-14" away the next time on that spot. This seems to make the paint stick..dont ask me why...just does.
Then apply decals if you have them and spray with a couple coats of clear. I also sprayed them with clear if they werent giving them a decal. It just gives the paint a better seal against damage..just like the car has a clear coat
I use Duplicolor's Automotive Clear coat. You should be able to buy it at Wal-mart, Napa or AutoZone. Depending on where you are in the US they list other stores that carry their products besides those
