• led lights for the dash

Has anyone ever changed the LED lights in the dash? I have a 2000 FBIRD and the LED in now are orange. I was thinking about changeing them when I do the speedometer overlay. What do you guys think? Can this be done? Is it hard? If anyone has pic can you post them.

It Can be done but not sure how hard it is. I was also thinking about changing the LED color because mine is red and I wanted to be green to match my neons. Im not sure how much of the dash you have to take out to get to them.. Or maybe you just take out that vent that its in.

I think that www.varad.com might sell them but not really sure.

RadioShack if you just want the plain LED

what you're looking for is a 194 styled LED capable of handling 12V.

you have me a little confused....do you mean the radio displays and the odometer?...if so, no those cannot be changed with a light...they can be inverted with special sheets that go over them...but in order to change the color of them you would have to change the display itself meaning unsoldering the original one and soldering in a new one if one can be found which I highly doubt..

edit..now I see that pic of a vent so maybee your talking about that?...either way lift up the dash to get to that vent, just pull, but not to hard as not to crack it and take the led socket out, get a new led from radio shack, color of your choice, your might have to unsolder the led, its been a while since I looked at it, because I too have been thinking of doing this and have a blue led to go in, just never had the time...oh ya another thing, look at the led when you take it out, there should be a part that is flattened, thats + , put the new led back in the same way ;) hope this helps ya ;)

Well, I am in the process of doing some of this. The little bulbs in the door handle can either be replaced or painted (I chose to paint for simplicity and I get the red color I want.) The radio cannot be changed. I couldn't figure out how to pull the radio out and I took the four bolts off of the front. The lights for the heater etc in the middle console are easy to change or paint. The TCS and/or convertible switches I would recommend to NOT take those apart (can't get my TCS switch to work $28 at the dealer). As for the dash, I couldn't pull the dash out. It kept on geting stuck on the steering colulmn.

in that case its easy..but maros come apart alot easier than birds do from my experiece...paint your bulbs...I did it for my HVAC when I pulled the rubber off of em, looks great , I used some high heat paint to be safe, less chance of peeling off..but I never even thougjh of changing the color behing the radio..thats a good idea thanx ;)

I want to change that vent bulb too, blue to match my stereo :D . Someone should do a little write up for the HVAC bulbs and any other bulbs that can be changed/painted. I want to go with all blue to match my stereo. If nothing else I guess I could just start ripping things apart and hope for the best?

I changed the red alarm led to a blue varad one. It looks really sweet at night, most of the interior of my car lights up a bright blue. I think the tint on my windows helps. Lol it scares people when they walk by sometimes, kinda funny.
