• Firebird headlight upgrade?

i tried doing a search and couldn't find anything so here's my question. are there any bulbs i can get for my headlights that will make it any brighter? i'm not looking for like an hid kit or anything, just want to replace the bulbs. right now my low beams are really dim and i can't see very good on dark roads. i'm looking for something under $50 if possible for a 94 firebird. also if i replace the bulbs, will it mess up the alignment of my lights? thanks.

i think it has to do w/ the fact your headlights are like 18" off the ground in a camaro

FYI, you can't just buy "bulbs" like you can for a Civic, you are going to need to buy a sealed beam headlight.

People always say the Sylvania Siverstars are good lights, maybe you can look into those. I think they sell them at Autozone.

Yes, replacing your headlights messes up the alignement and you will need the get them professionally aligned sooner or later.

i had the same problem with dim lights. just go to your auto store and get a set of the Sylvania H4666CB (Cool Blue). I did and they were at least 80% brighter. They really worked.

well, i looked into that too. the problem with the sylvania silverstars is that they don't have sealed beams. they only come in bulbs (the 9005 9006 that camaros have). auto optiks has a kit to convert the sealed beams into just bulbs. the other problem is that if you wanna do the sylvania silverstars you will have to wire the camaro harness to your firebird. i'm sure that it's doable, but that's the main reason i dropped the project.

The Cool Blues are a direct replacement for your headlights. Just unplug the old ones, plug in the new ones. takes 5 minutes. I drove around with dim lights for the longest time thinking it was something else. One night i bought the Cool Blues, replaced one to see the difference compared to the regular....BIG difference. In the meantime, it might help a little to wash the lenses of the old ones.

do you know anyone that sells those lights? would a local autozone or something have them/be able to order them? where could i go to get them aligned or is it easy to do yourself? sorry for all the questions. i would rather know before hand instead of finding out it's going to be a bigger PITA than i thought.

yeah you can get them at Pep Boys or Auto Zone and I think even Wal Mart. They could probably align them for you too but that's not very hard to do. The lights will cost about 14 or 16 dollars each. A little pricey but worth it. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

i think they make sealed beam silver stars now i saw at advanced autoparts in my town a friend of mine has them in his eclipse and they are very bright i like them but they dont make my type of bulb.

i think that there are some sealed beam silver stars, but when i called them they told me that the sealed beam for firebirds was a very unusual bulb, so they didn't have it. if they sell them now, awesome.

i picked up a set of the sylvania cool blue h4666cb lights from autozone today for $16.99/each. i'll probably put them in later today. does anyone know any big name companies that align headlights? i don't want to put them in until i find a place to adjust the headlight so i can drive at night.

I don't know of any shops that will definitely do it so I don't want to say "go to pep boys" or "go here" or anything like that and have come back all p.o.'d at me. It's really simple to do but you will need a torx wrench. This is straigh from the Haynes Manual for 93-97 Firebirds. So if anyone questions the credibility of this post they can talk to the publishers, not me. ;)

Top Screw adjusts up and down, side controls side to side. Self explanatory. You need a blank wall (not your garage door), level floor and masking tape.

"1)Position masking tape vertically on the wall in reference to the vehicle centerline and the centerline of both headlights.

2)Position a HORIZONTAL tape line in reference to the centerline of all the headlights. Note: it may be easier to position the tape on the wall with the vehicle parked only a few inches away.

3)Adjustment should be made with the vehicle 25 feet from the wall. this is an important measurement!

4)Starting with the low beam, position the high intensity zone so it's two inches below the horizontal line and two inches to the right of the headlight vertical line.

5)With the high beams on, the high intensity zone should bevertically centered on the exact center just below the horizontal line.

6)Have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department or service station."

I put number 6 in there because it's also in the manual. sorta my "disclaimer"

I did this and I still need a little adjustment when I drove it at night. I parked out somewhere dark with no traffic and adjusted them there ont he street. Real world adjusting, I guess. The hardest part of driving with these headlight was trying not to notice the spotlight effect! Good luck!
