• help me shine

I want to keep my new black car in tip top car show shape. I used to keep my old car pretty shiny but after a while I completely neglected it. But I want to keep my new car's paint looking it's best. What's the best way? Here's a list of natural problems that occur in my area.
1) constant 100 degree weather
2) Dusty Winds
3) MAJOR bugs on bumber
4) Tree Sap
5) Bratty, disrespectful kids in parking lots.
6) Bratty disrespectful parents of kids in parking lots.

I've been seeing that a lot of you use a certain Zaino(?) wax. I went to the website and saw a whole slew of products that I'm anxious to try out. But in the meantime, what products would help my car shine and help me prevent swirls? If I get swirls, will the Zaino take them away once I start using it? Thanks in advance for any help I may receive!

No Mothers is not a substitute for Zaino for what he needs, which is protection and not shine.
No product will out-protect or out-last Zaino, there is no question about that.....and the shine is also very high quality although some will argue that X product will outshine it.

Edit - if you have any questions, IM or Email me.

Zaino would be a good choice under those conditions. I tried Zaino for a while, but I didn't really see any improvement in shine over Meguiars and Zaino takes a long time to dry so it's just easier for me to use Meguiars. Zaino will last a lot longer though.

A good claybar is probably the best thing for your car. It gets out all the dirt that you can't get off by regular washing. This is the first thing you should do because you don't want to wax over it and force it deeper into the paint. If there's lots of crap in the air where you live you will need to clay probably every 6 months or so, maybe even sooner. Rub your hand along your car and if it sounds like you're sanding it, then it's time to clay. Clay also works great on glass.

If you can't park your car in a garage you may want to get a car cover. A california car duster would also be good to have.

How hard is it to clay a car? I heard it was kind difficult and that its easy to screw up and cause more damage to the paint, but I have a lot of swirls and this sounds tempting...let me know.
By the way, I have been using Meguires. What do you all think about there products?

Sam, by far the best wax i used that can be found in the stores is a wax (if you can find it) called liquid glass. It's the best. Some good tips to think about. Never wax your car when it's really hot out. Keep some touchup handy, black is an easy color to touch up. Compound for some of the stuff on the paint you can't get off. After you wax if you have a lot of that hair stuff all over just get a few paper towels and neatly fold them. Barely get any water on it but just enough to make it damp and slightly wipe it with the pt. This should get all that crap off. Just keep a regular wax on it man and you'll be set.

Thanks Ted for the advice. Here's what I did the other day: First I used Meguiars #1 paint cleaner. Then I used their #2 polish followed by a fine polish from a company I ordered from a loooong time ago named Malm's. Then I used Malm's wax. I only managed to do the roof and the top of the spoiler. Then get this, I had to drive it that night and it rained and it's been raining for the past three days. So basically my car is back to square one. Needs a wash, polish and wax.
Question: The clay bar: I'm kinda terrified to use it. If it removes stuff like dirt and road tar, wouldn't that stay in the clay bar even after it was folded and kneaded then later rubbed against the paint?

Claybarring is pretty passive and will not harm your finish unless you do something really stupid. I've gotten some really positive results from my Mother's Claybar

Meguires is pretty good stuff, and I think its better than Zaino because you end up applying it more often

Thanks guys...
I just bought the clay bar kit and I think I'll use it tomorrow. I hope the results are great, from what I hear they will be. I have a quick question... I bought the Mothers Claybar and I was wondering how long this whole process would take...I heard about 4 hours to put on and take off...is this true?
