  • Thinking of getting neons

I was thinking of getting some under car neons. I was wondering if this was a good deal. I am not worried about getting them off ebay, I am just looking for decient brightness for a cheep price, so if anyone finds a better deal please let me know. My car is green so I was going to go with green neons too, but I am open to other colors if you have any suggestions.

Under car neons are fine as long as you can't see the damn bulb.

well the link has 2 54" bulbs ans 2 30" bulbs. would that go all around? I think the 54's and as long as they get, what about the 30's? they make longer front and rear bulbs?

They make longer ones than 30" but I recommend you stay w/ that size, very good choice should light up hella bright. BTW those also be better cuz if you break a bulb they're easier to replace (has one transformer) unlike some that carry 4, also easier to route.

I think it will look cool. My friend had purple ones under his black ford lightning.

What is with the blue's clues car? That is freaking gay!

just to save you a little trouble, you can go down to autozone and get underbodies. they're $120 at my local one. and then you don't have to worry about shipping and you won't have to wait for them.

To each his own, but neons are just as bad as one of those big fat erector set spoilers or a fart can, in my book. I think it'll look hideous on an f-body. BUT, if you do go thru with it, some words of advice: Stay away from blue or red, they're both illegal, because their emergency vehicle colors. Some cops'll stop you for them, others wont..but I don't think its really worth paying the ticket.

I emailed my state's Department of Transportation to check up on the laws regarding neons. I specifically asked if any colors were illegal, and this was the reponse that I received from a State Highway Patrol Officer:

What colors and types (under body, in-car, etc.) of neon lights are legal?

Lights must not rotate, oscillate, or flash, but state law does not prohibit the
use of colored neon lights under your car as long as they do not interfere or
                              blind other drivers.

Ohio Revised Code, section 4513.17 prohibits flashing lights on motor vehicles
with the exception of emergency vehicles, turn signals, and hazard flashers.

As long as the neon lights are less than 300 candle power they are not in
violation of any State law. If the lights are more than 300 candle power they
must be directed to strike the pavement the vehicle sets upon at a distance of
no more than 75 feet. The lights can not exceed 500 candle power. Colored
lights, such as neon lights around a license plate, could be illegal if the
light illuminates the plate and changes the colors of the plate. State law
requires a white light to illuminate the rear license plate.

                              Lt. Fambro
So I think it may vary from state to state what colors you can and can't use.
