Under Car Lighting, Need Advice

I'm thinking about getting green under car lighting for my green 96 camaro. What are some of you guys' opinions? Also, How hard is it to install? Any info. would be appreciated.

i have to caution you about underbody lights, i have a set that has been sitting in my garage for almost 2 months.. i got ahold on them cheap as can be, but the install looks like a b!tch. i know how to wire them, but securing the bulbs means screwing holes into my underside.. maybe its just my set, but i can't get myself to do it. i might hold onto them until the ground effects this spring to see if i can work something out, if not they will be for sale soon... sorry they are red, but they have remotes like car alarms to turn 'em on and off.. might want to check ebay if you're gonna buy.

i have thought about it i already put mine on yes you have to drill with a self tapping 1/2 inch screw. now im thinking once i get sub frame connecters you could c clamp the neons to the sfc's could you not? but you will still have to drill in the the plastic air dam that hangs down to put the front one on

I have a set on my car, got the gold series from Street Glow, my Camaro is green also and I got green neons too. They are extremely bright. I can spotlight in the ditches with them on. They are a pain to install, nothing to it really, just need some time. Running the wire is the biggest pain. Make sure you test everything before you put them on. I had to send my transformer back. So make sure everything works first. I'll get some pics for you, the bad thing is that the pics just won't do the lights justice. I used the 1/2 self tapping screws on mine, I'm not scared to put holes in the car. The bulbs can be seen from the sides, that's the only bad thing. The cops around here are cool about it, they wave when I go by bassing and glowing (that is in the town I live in, I've been pulled over 3 times for some noise ordinance law in other towns :D ). The blueline series, I'm not sure, but I think they will fit in the ridge that goes down the undersides of our cars. I'm not sure you'd need to measure it. I plan on getting a blueline neo-blue kit to put in that area, that way I'll have green, neo blue, and hopefully if they mix right I'll have turquoise in the middle. I also have a green gold series UB kit from Streetglow. And they are really bright. Check out my pictures(link in sig) The pictures really don't justify how bright the lights are because its on a black top but they are bright. And they are easy to install but it takes time...

Yeah, I've heard they are really bright. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being hardest, How would you guys rate the install? Also, my camaro is polo metallic green (dark green), do you think I should get green neons, or go with a different color?

I have the Street Glow Gold series and It took me 3 hours to put them on. It just takes time. As for bulbs showing, no you can not put them on with subframe connectors on your car. The bulbs will show. We tried it on several cars we installed them on.

If you put them on your car INSIDE of the frame, you can't see any of the bulbs except for the one in the back. (you can't get around that one) You will see the part I am talking about, you need to find someone with a lift so you can stand under your car and install them. If you don't use a lift, you won't be able to get to the inside of the frame. But, you just need to have patience and time when installing them. Oh, and don't forget to buy LOTS of zipties. You will eventually start seeing the wires hang down under your car, from stretching, after a period of time. Ziptie 'em back up! Best thing ever invented for neons.

IMO: Neon bulbs should not be seen. The point of them is for them to "glow" not show.

I'd say a 7. There not hard to put on, just need some time and patience. My car is polo mettalic green also, they go well with it. Yeah, Redninety5 is right, you need alot of zipties, good ones, don't cheese out and get cheap ones. Not unless you want them breaking or pulling back through later on. If you have access to a lift, I'd strongly reccomend using one. Good luck.

hey guys. im rather new to the board but if you wanna know about anything neon related, im sure i can tell you. im a regular from the streetglow message board, so is dmiller_2005. anywayz . . . its not that hard to install at all. it seems that everyone is using the self tapping screws. heres a better idea, go buy some zip ties like RedNinety5 said. much easier to use. just secure the tubes with the zipties around anything. gives you more choices for where to put the tube. forget the self tapping screws.

So I should use zip-ties to mount the lights and keep the wires in place? I would rather do that than use screws but do the zip-ties work just as good and does it cut down on installation time?

ive had my UB kit on since august, all through winter. it holds up good. it will cut down instal time. with the screws, you need to fit a drill under the car and will need a lift. with zipties, you just gotta be sure you can fit yourself under far enough to do it. i did mine flat on the street, then again, im a 17 year old that only weighs 150, so i could slide under there. but yeah, zipties are the way to go.

I'm going to get the StreetGlow gold series green underglow kit. I DON'T want the bulbs to show though. I want to see just the glow. Will this be a problem to hide the lights and still get a good bright glow?

No, It will not be a problem. Just mount the tubes inside of the frame on the sides, just under the rear bumper in front of the muffler, and behind the air dam in the front. You will only be able to see the rear tube. There is no way of getting around the rear one showing, even on birds. This is how I did it, and I get a very strong glow, and many compliments on hiding the tubes. Any other way, you'll see the tubes.
