• Dont ever get a paint job with candies :o(

I got this in my hood somehow.....2 weeks ago. I washed the car on a Saturday...chip wasnt there. The car sat in the garage from then on for the next 5 days. Drove it only a short distance to the airport...put the cover on it. COme back 2 days later and Steve finds the chip about 1/4" long or less. No damage to the cover so I am sure it didnt happen there. If you look there's no damage at all the the nose part that is flush with it.

The one pic you can see how the orange base which is under the Tangerine Candy appears to be no existant....as if they paint hadn't adhered.

I went to the shop today for the painter that did the work to look at. His quote???>>>>>>>>@#!$%#%#% $1500!!!! Says because it's candy and where the chip is that he'd have to repaint the whole front bumper...and front fenders!! I understand the part about blending but why so much! Its just on the edge of the hood! I'm a bit peeved.!!Had he told me at the time that Candies are very hard to ever match up I would've never gotten it done in that paint! He didnt tell me that till AFTER he painted it. He knew I had a daily driver!!

I cant afford to have him paint it again...was only 2 months ago!

Im going to do the best I can at touching it up if he wont do anything for me.

MAKE them repaint it, thats crap. With a paint job less then 2 months old the guy should eat it and repaint what needs to be repainted for you.

Maybe something flew up while you were driving it, like a small pebble. I got a few nicks and dings in my front hood that look similar. Thats all I could think it could be, I'm sure he could touch it up for you.

BTW, you have one of the hottest Firebirds I've seen man, you got a good eye for color selection. Keep that bird looking good!

          That man is a lady

I would also tell him to eat the cost since there is no surrounding damage. paint shouldnt chip of in large chuncks like that.

P.S. Maybe you missed the relflection in the first picture... Her hair is pulled up ;) :D

That's a sweet car! I use one of those Le Bra things on mine to keep from getting chips but no way would I want to cover any of that up. Have you seen that liquid bra stuff? Supposedly it's like a really tough clearcoat or something. I've heard it used on exotics and customs but I can't find much else about it.

Thanks for all the nice replies :D and I'm not offended pinball and thanks Joe for clearing it up :D

Im going to give this guy a call tomorrow and try to set him straight on it. If he's not willing to help me out then I will not recommend him to anyone ever again. I guess he doesnt know what damage he will cause to his business by being this way.

I had already planned to get one of those clear "bra" things before I even got the paint job so I'd have it. But I thought I should let the paint cure a bit before. Well now I wish I had bought it. Today I ordered it. Here's the place I got it from Invinci-Shield. I have seen this product in person and couldnt even tell it was on the car.

I still say something wasnt right in that area...paint didnt stick or cure and it flaked off from possibly somethign hitting it. I have been laid off since Christmas and the car sits 90% of the time :(

Thats definetly a paint mixture problem... Like filling teeth its hard doing the edges and keeping it from chipping off. I believe he had too much hardner in the paint, hence the way it seems to have torn completely off.

The only thing paint should do if something hard hits it is minorly fleck off (i.e. a tiny dot) or a little clearcoat damage might occur if something like bird doo sticks to it for over a day in the hot blazing sun. That kind of a paint problem looks more like a "it wasnt sanded properly there and paint didnt stick" problem.

If you look at photo 2 you can see how its not primer underneath but actually looks like the OE paint - pathetic work.

Not to mention the basecoat on that paint is super thick - did he sand it at all and build the coats up?! It looks like he did a fine job artistic wise but if its already done that, you'll have other problems later - no matter how well you take care of it!

I'd seriously get him to fix it for you, there is no excuse for such poor work.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2 month old paint job as well. However the guy who did it always fixes the problems I find. It's just those problems shouldn't have happened in the first place.

My front end ground effect on the front left all of a sudden had a tear in it, about 5-6 inches long. You should have some sort of warranty on the paint job. Don't they have to cover their work for a certain amount of time? Mines 5 years of fading, peeling, cracking etc. However I'm not sure if this "candies" is different.

Either way you need to make HIM fix it or there will be hell to pay. I definately know how you feel, Best of luck to ya.

Edit: Btw, 1500 for a chip sounds like BULL**** to me anyways.
