Does anyone know if wheel polish would fix this? Someone sprayed a strong degreaser called "Thunder blast" on my wheels and it ate away at the clearcoat.
I accidentally posted that. Sorry. If it made anyone smile, it was worth it. Also, curbed rims cause I have 215's, when I buy 255/50/16 kumho 712's would tire installers fix the curbed rims or anything?
I have a hell of a time keeping my rims clean because they're mag, and they dull very quickly. I would highly recommend you get a wheel buffing kit. You might be able to get one at auto zone or pep boys. Or you could get a buffing pad that fits on a drill or dremmel. I would recommend that you first wash them with a PH balanced, all wheel cleaner. This won't hurt your wheels. Thunderblast and Orange cleaner have very, very strong acids that leave a mess of your wheels. I would wash, and then polish with a buffer using mother's billet polish. It's an incredible metal polish and works miracles for all wheels. Make sure you use a clean towel. I use shop rags because they don't leave lint, and you can throw it away when it gets dirty. It may take awhile, but it will work.

HIS WHEELS ARE NOT POLISHED. they are painted. do not go sanding and polishing your painted rims.
ya you're kinda screwed, get em re-painted or get new wheels. and no tire installers will not repair a rim....usually it costs 100$ a rim to get fixed with damage like that.
Sand the wheel down with very fine sand paper (I used 2000 grit) and spray a couple coats of clear coat on (I used duplicolor from wal-mart) it makes the wheels look like new. I had to do mine because the clear coat started to crack, it still looks fine even after almost a year.

if you can avoid overspray, please do....newspaper works, and make sure you cover your car as well...dont want to spend hours cleaning overspray off your paint. ;)
Originally posted by joecool: OK for this clear coat spray, is it too bad to get it on the tires? It'll come off the tires right?
I'd suggest taking the wheels off the car, and use news paper and tape to cover the tires unless you've got good aim with a spray can. Don't spray too much, since the wheels are curvy the paint will run, just do a couple light coats.

What about the inside of the rim? If I spray that with clearcoat, will brakedust wash off easier? Where can I find new wheel locks also, mine are chipped BADLY.
