  • Clear Coat Peal :(

My shoty GM pain job is starting to fail on a 2000 Maple Red Metallic Firebird, Its only in a small area and I know once it gets going the patch will just gets bigger has any one tried to repair a pealing clear? I was thinking maybe just wet sand lightly prep it and spray the area with a automotive clear spray can to keep it from pealing any more and then buff it with some fine cut from 3M. I only got the car not even a year ago and she's starting to show her age at 47K, very depressing. :(

Easy fix. This past summer i repaired a small area behind my driver side rear wheel. You pretty much have the right idea as far as how to go about doing the repair; however, i would recommend talking to a professional. I talked to several body/paint guys before hand, just to make sure i knew what i was doing. I have experience working with paint as a detailer, but when it comes to wet sanding i do not have much experience. Usually that is left to the body shop.

Sorry to hear about the prob, Exzodius.

Knock on wood, my clear coat & paint is still looking good after 5 years. I'm really impressed with how long it has held up very well. The car's finish is light years ahead of the third gen F bodies.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Krazed, glad to know I'm not the only Monterrey Maroon Camaro with this issue. Damn metallic paints.
