  • small dent in my rear quarter panel

well some dumba$ses were thinking they were funny by hitting my rear quarter panel to make my alarm go off. well its not that big of a deal when they hit it with an open fist, but this dumbf^ck(s) hit it with a closed fist twice and it made two small dents. they are small, minor dents, but big enough to really piss me off...

well anyways, what would be the best way to get these out (take in to codsideration i am broke)? I would like to fix this myself, is there an easy way to access the backside of the rear quarter panel?

Here are some pics... kinda tough to see though

Yes, take the rear plastic panels out from the interior and bang the dents out. Use a piece of wood (2x4) and a hammer. Put the wood on the inside of the dent, and lightly hit the wood with the hammer. Save a few "bangs" for those jerkoff's who are intentionally setting off your alarm!

yeah, and let me stress the words "lightly".

another way is if you put a thin piece of rubber on the end of some thick metal rod and rub the inside to try to smooth it out. this is what most of those paintless dent removal places do. if you have a flourescent light in your garage it makes it a lot easier to see the waves in the car and you can judge based on that. i still suggest taking it to the paintless dent place to get it fixed. its only about 60 bucks.

well i fixed the dents, granted its not totally perfect, but its alot better than it was. i used both the 2x4 technique and thin rubber on the metal rod technique. it was time consuming and took a couple hours because i was careful not to make any new dents from careless pounding. heres a pic of the fixed. i appreciate the advice hockeyman and loochy

Did you have any trouble getting the panel back on the car and getting it lined up? I'm questioning because I have a small dent in almost the exact same place.

i didnt actually take the rear quarter panel off my car. what i did was took off the interior panel (the one that holds the speaker), then removed the spare tire, then removed the monsoon amp, all that in order to access the backside of the dents. I did all the pounding while the dented panel was still on my car.

remember though, this is a time consuming process and you must have patience, but good luck if you go for it!

Yeah, the rear quarters on just about every car I've seen are welded. If the damage is major, you are looking at either having the bad section cut out and new sheet metal welded in or having the entire panel cut at the factory weld seams and replacing the entire panel. Because this damage was minor it was able to be accessed and repaired from inside the hatch area.

This is more city specific, but here is the guy I took my car to ... http://www.kochdentsystems.com/
He did an amazing job on not only the big ding, but also other little door hits. I had somebody ding my car in almost the exact same spot. Only it was her a_ _ and she set the car alarm off, and she admitted it to the police, but in the police report, she was not guilty ... get that!! I paid about $160
