I use Advanced Auto Parts generic tire shine in the spray can. Good stuff, cheap, lasts long and has a good shine that isn't too slick and doesn't spray on the car.

im not sure of the truth behind this but IMO, it is worth it to just use a tire shine product design for use on tires.
interesting, well if you don't like oil I'v also used dot 3 break fluid to clean my tires as well but I still stand by the oil it keep em clean and shiny for a long time. Until I notice something being messed up by using oil to clean my tires then I'll stop but until then its simple penzoil 10W-30 for me for my tire cleaner for me.
