Fishing line between the strip and the door. Goo Gone and hard work to get rid of the rest.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

it was brought to my attention, but wont a heat gun work best? wont it just melt the adhesive away? and then of course add some goo gone just in case?

I removed it on my bird. I did use wire, but I found it best to grab ahold of the siding and pull down. If you pull it back towards you, you leave behind a lot of that residue.

Once you've got it started, pull down and use a hairdryer. The residue will slide off the car with the siding. And go slow!

also, the gooey stuff can be "erased" away using a pinstripe eraser.

yeah that seems to be one of the spots that gets dirtiest, because it gets under there and i cant wipe it off unless i use like qtips...

anyone have pictures of what it looks like removed?

Similar question here: anyone have pictures of what a Camaro (98+, preferably pewter w/ stock GFX - basically like my car) looks like without those things too?

I noticed that the one dent and like 5 knicks from doors are all above that line since most cars are taller than mine. Stupid SUV's... it looks to me like those stips serve no purpose, other than to add about $50 or $60 to the new car sticker price.

                        they are an option

...an inexpensive option that will save you quite a few door dings. too bad they look really really out of place above the rear tires where all the dings happen.

I took them off because I was getting door dings anyway thanks to the wavy shape of the Firebird door.

I actually tried today to get my side molding off but unfortunately the idiot that repainted my car left a huge amount of overspray that outlined where the molding was. We tried everything to get it off but it was in the paint... :( The car looked absolutely wonderful w/o the side moldings on it! But we had to put them back on... It was pretty easy to do! Even in this 35 degree weather. Just a good tool to rub off the glue from your paint and a lot of Goo Gone and some fishing wire will be perfect. Go for it!
