since all of the interior painting threads seemed to have disappeared everytime i try to search for it, i'm starting this one up.

Tomorrow i'm going to walmart to get that "rubber thing" MrCoffee mentioned in that window tint post (man i thought my car was the only one that had that problem!), anyway while i'm in the paint department i might as well pick up some paint for my interior because that seemed like a cool project to do. I want to paint both door control console dealies (the thing that holds the switches), and the heater/AC grilles/grates whatever they are called.

What exactly do i have to get? I remember you are suppose to sand them down first, then prime/paint/clear coat? is that it? is there a special type of paint or anything i should be looking for while i'm there?

I think the paints called Dupicolor or something like that. You can get it at Wal-Mart..

sand them down well. then couple primer coats. then 2-3 paint coats. then 2 clear coats. try to make each coat pretty light. allow a lot of time between coats for drying. i'm re-doing mine today, i get sick of red too quickly

Krylon has a new paint that molecularly attaches itself to the plastic. me, i didn't sand or anything, just cleaned w/ alcohol, and painter w/ normal spray paint. took about 4-5 light coats to cover it all, and then touch up's later, cuz it looks good. I may sand it off tho and use the new krylon paint. oh, i did mine in white too.

Have done interior plastic parts a couple of times and found that this works best:

Clean the plactic part to be CERTAIN that no residue from wax or silicon is present. Alcohol works well, but use it a few times and each time with a clean rag.

Not necessary to sand plastic parts if, after cleaning, you first spray them with Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter # CP199. It dries very quickly and gives a very good base. Next, add your color coats. Personally, I would stay with Dupli-Color products because they work well together.

If you are going to use a clear coat as a final finish, I recommend that you wait at least 48 hours before using the clear coat because its composition will make color coats that are not completely dry lift from the surface or krinkle. You can shorten the drying time somewhat if you use a hair dryer after each color coat.

I think the most important thing to use is the Adhesion Promoter. Good Luck.
