Brake Calipers, I want to paint them red

[2000 Camaro]

I want to paint my break calipers red. Is there special paint I need to use or do I just ask the auto part store to give me the best paint for it? Is it better to powder coat them red? If so, can I powder coat them myself or is that specail paint?

Also how do you go about removing your calipers, any special tools required or do they come off pretty easily?

Were do you get the camaro lettering for the brake calipers?

I used high temp red paint, mainly because its used for painting motors so i figured it woudl handle grease and heat fine. Its at any car store, they usually have Black, Red, Blues and Yellow.

I think last time I was getting paint that they actually make a paint for painting calipers not sure what makes it fancy though.

the rear calipers you can get off with regular tools, for the fornts ones you need a special hex tool.

byt the way by a pack of those cheap red rags, and a can of brake parts cleaner.

It will clean the brakes up nicely, before you paint them.

I used a special brake caliper paint from some company that starts with a G. It was about $40 and is resistant to most chemicals and brake dust....see my pics page on my website to see how they turned out.

$40 for paint? Either way the brake caliper paint I saw was like $5 a can, and my high temp paint was $3 a can. Hasn't had any problems jsut gets dirty with the wheels, and cleans up the smae way.

ya just use the the high temp paint all i did. Use a wire brush and brake cleaner to clean up the calipers. Put like 4-5 Coats on and your pretty much ready to go.Make sure to cover your suspesenion and such for overspray.

I used a hairdyrer at the same to dry the paint it make it so much faster of a job.

Can you put a clear coat over all the coats of paint to make it real shinny and easier to clean? Or do they not make something like this and sell it at auto part stores?

I did mine with Corvette Red engine paint fron autozone, I did a 1200 degree White base coat..Looks great..Check out my pics on my site...Peace

must be a typo. the most i have seen was like $5 for "caliper" paint and $4 for high temperature. i would suggest using brake cleaner and a metal toothbrush to clean the calipers first. you dont want to paint something dirty.

i did it the ghetto way-the fast way-the way you really wouldnt know if i didnt tell you. i left the calipers on the rotor, put a grocerie store plastic bag around the rotor and squeezed it as best i could agianst the brake pad, and then sprayed away. why should i have to worry about the back of the rotor where it wont be seen.
and yes, use around 4 coats the first time, every time after, for touch ups, you will only need a quick touch up coat.

How long did it take you, because the front ones are harder to remove, I may use your "technique"

i took my time so it took a little long, but we where barbequing at the same time. no paint on the rotors. ghetto style but it looks good to me.

I just won some decals from ebay. They are chrome. The cool thing is that I got 4 decals (2 spare) for like $9.00. Just go to ebay and type in caliper decals. Post pics in the Spring!

My friend painted his calipers with high temp spray paint the same weekend I painted mine. It's been about seven months and his have dulled big time mine still look like I just painted them. the best part is it's a brush on you don't have to worry about taking off your caliper or masking stuff off.
