• How hot can fiberglass get before damage?

I'm trying to clean up my engine bay and I'm considering attempting to make a cover to go over the intake manifold and/or possibly over the heads/ect like on Corvette's (got the idea after looking under the hood of my dad's Suburban today and seeing the cover on his manifold). I would imagine it'd be easier to mold/shape fiberglass than high temp plastic like on his, so I was wondering if fiberglass could take the heat being on top of the engine like that. I tried doing a google on 'fiberglass heat' and other similar searches and only came up with home insulation and boat repair links. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Why not use sheetmetal or some other metal? why do you choose fiberglass?

Well, nothing seems to be melting on the Vette yet, and those headers get very hot on the sides. So, I really dont know man.

I hadn't thought of that. I may have to give that consideration.

Edit: I thought of fiberglass first because I thought I could probably mold it to just about any shape I'd need to do this.

the paint will get messed up before the fiberglass will.. assuming you use a high quality resin..

Oh yeah, I forgot about paint <- me hitting myself. I know they make paint for use on engines and brake calipers that handle high temps. Would there be a problem using that on fiberglass, other than narrowing down color choices available?
