silverstar bulbs

was thinking about getting a pair of these for my wheels...I found a great deal on them (ebay), but it is model #9006..i heard you have to use model #9006ST (for low beams). can anyone confirm or deny if this matters at all? ST stands for silverstar. sylvania makes the lights and the last two letters tells you what kind they are. they also have CB - cool blue and XV - xtra vision. make sure you get the right part # w/ ST at the end for silverstars.

yea, he is right. i just got some new headlights/brights for my camaro. you need 9005 and 9006.

I've had the cool blue's, and I replaced them with the silverstar's. I think they both looked the same. Maybe...the silverstars have a little more brightness to them, but it really wasn't that noticeable (to me).

i wouldn't get them unless they have ST at the end. just go to your local auto parts store and get them there. i got mine from advance auto parts.

does anyone have a conversion kit for 4 lowbeams?
I want to put 4 lowbeams in instead 2 lowbeams and 2 highbeams, but i think the connector is different.

If you have the conversion kit or not, then the bulb connections are the same. Just take out the 9005's and replace with 9006's, and you're good to go.

but you cant have all 4 on at the same time. dunno about camaros though

I have all 6 bulbs glowing at once. It's not that difficult if you don't care to cut a wire or two. I also have the SilverStar low beams. I got em at Wal Mart like 2 days ago. They carry alot farther down the road than my old bulbs did.
The thing about the site is they list the bulb number with extra stuff at the end. 9005 and 9006 are the bulb numbers, thats what you look for, anything after those numbers like ST, CB or XV is just an extra notation to define the type of bulb. Any bulb with those numbers will work in there. 9006 is the low beam I think, 9005 is the opposite. I wouldn't want 4 low beams, if anything, go with 4 high beams. All you have to do is take a utility knife and cut the plastic out from inside the plug on the bulb, and it will just slide right onto the harness. If anybody wants more info on converting their lights over to a 4 or 6 bulb setup when the highs are on, lemme know and I'll find my post from a while back.

To get the high beams and low beams to work when the highs are turned on, you gotta make 1 connection under your dash. I'll give you the rundown on it, but there's a writeup somewhere online. Look for Highbeam mod, it might be on www.installuniversity.com
Remove the 4 phillips head screws from the plastic cover under the steering column. Next, remove the cover and place it somewhere safe. Then, you'll see a triangular bracket below the steering column held in place with 2 13mm nuts (I think). just move that bracket to the side somewhere, there might be some wires cliped to it, but it's safe to let it dangle. Here's where things get tricky cause visibility is low, you might need a flash light. Start looking for a white plastic looking switch with a brown plug I think. There's some wires going into it, should be near the base of the column. Click the high beam stalk a few times and you'll see a rod moving on the side of the column, it goes into that switch. You'll know it when you see it. Press the black tabs in and pull the plug out. Connect the large tan wire and the yellow wire. Don't cut them, they have to connect to the switch, you just want them to connect to each other. Use your imagination here, it doesn't matter what you connect em with, just connect em somehow. Maybe a vampire clip? That's how you get the highs/lows to work together on the high setting. Test it out, and then put everything back together.

Now for the foglights. I copy/pasted this from ls1tech.com cause I don't feel like trying to explain in my own words.

Going into the back of the fog switch there is a green wire, cut it. Insulate the car side as it will no longer will be needed and does go hot when the high beams are on. Add a little wire to the switch side of the green wire and ground under one of the radio mount bolts. Put the switch and radio trim back together. You're done inside the car. Go under the hood, pull up the relay box with the fan and fog relays in it. Going into the bottom of the fog relay is the same green wire, cut it. Extend the relay side about 8" with black wire and ground it. I used the ground screw right next to the relay box, on the strut tower. Insulate the car side of the cut wire as it goes hot with the high beams. Put everything back together and you are done.

I didn't do the part with the fog light switch, I just did the part at the fuse box under the hood. The only difference I can gather is that the you can't turn the fog lights off while the high beams are on, with my way. I may get around to fixing that one day, but there ya go.


That'll give you the option of having all 6 bulbs on at once. The only negative is that you can't turn the lows off. But I'm about to make that work for myself.
