There is a small spot on my car, the place behind the door window, and in front of the rear window (Nobody probably knows what I'm talking about.) where the clear coat is starting to come off. Is there any way to stop this so that it does not get any worse?

Bummer, I've had several non F body cars with the same type of delamination problem. In my opinion a permanent solution is to refinish the panel. I was able to prolong the agony on one car by giving it a lot of TLC (wax jobs)and removing any beaded rain water from the finish before the sunshine returned. I suppose a car cover might help prolong the finish if you live in a very hot & sunny climate, but beware of scratches a cover can produce. I found some other tips on a website that seem reasonable:
" We would like to focus in August on three of this month's enviornmental conditions that impact your car's clear coat finish. They are - - Temperature - UV Rays -- Ozone .
Something has changed that has made the paint system on your car less resistant to cemhical etching. Detroit has been regulated to lower the solvents and increase the solids in their paint applications. AND the problem for us it -- Higher solids are prone to etching.
Now - the 3 August factors:
(1) High temperature - the excessive heat melts the clear coat thus exposing the paint solids to chemical pollution ( an example would be bird droppings).
(2) U V Rays - lots of sun and light cloud cover the sun's rays penetrate your clear coat and delaminates the solid paint from the clear coat causing peeling from the paint system primer. (example milky spots under the clear coat).
(3) Ozone - ozone acts as an oxidizing agent that appears as a dull ing to your car's finish Higher levels of ozone are common in urban and coastal settings.
CAR CARE TIPS FOR AUGUST:
* If you driveway wash your car be sure to dry it quickly and thoroughly
* Do not put wheel cleaners on wet wheels
* Never wax a hot surface or wax in direct sunlight.
* Do not "scrub" your car but rather "glide" the wash mitt over it's surface.
* Do not use a brush or towel that has been lying on the ground.
* Refresh your wax protection every 3 months."
Good Luck, hope this helps
