• Aluminum Door Panels: Failed

I am giving up at this point. I would have loved to do the aluminum door panels but MAN is it a PITA... i tried galvanized steel sheets and it looked decent but didnt come in the size i needed. also, once you destroy all of the little tabs holding the leather to the door, it is very hard to get it all back together and STURDY!!!

for anyone attempting this, i used a lot of screws and washers to attach the door to the panel. it works fairly well for the gist of things but once you pop all the panels it will just never be the same..

I went to LOWES and got aluminum flashing, it was in the perfect size, 20" by 10' so i also had plenty to work with, i made three door panels
the first one i juse cut what i though i HAD to cut, and didnt do an exact outline, that didnt work out at all, dont even attempt. if you are going to try it, trace out the panel onto the metal and cut (cutting is also what makes this project so much of a pain, wear good gloves, i was bleeding A LOT by the time i was finished with the one panel.

good luck to anyone who wants to continue this project, i think im going to leave this one alone for a while... maybe ill try using silvery silky cloth? that might look cool and have some of the same effects as metal... what do you guys/gals think?

haha you gave up on it?? I think a silver/grey vinyl would look pretty good. You are right though it is definately a PITA. I cut my thumb so bad with the knife I was suing to slice the tabs off.

im also getting a lot of those decals from bfranker i saw your post on the bird decal on the gauge cluster... i used to have every decal availiable but then i took them all off for some reason, and some fell off... anyways, im going to get the door ones and maybe the headlight/nose bird ones... not he rear though, i have plans for the rear as of now...

and maybe some for the interior, like maybe a firebird right on the airbag thing.. and some on the headrests

metal on the interior wouldnt look too good anyway... maybe you really want to change stuff, you can just go with a different color over it
