Just replaced my stocks with SilverStars. And, no they are not HID by any means. But I bought them at Autozone for 19.99 each. 40 bucks total, not $500 dollars. I know they are not are bright as the HID lights. A buddy of mine at work has a Lexus IS300 with HID and yes it is bright. But he had a rock hit one and it cost him $700 just to get the headlight replaced.
Anyway for my '97 Camaro I just bought the 9006 Low Beam blubd for a '98. Then I pulled my headlight out and SLOWLY took a small screwdriver and managed to get the old blub out of the casing. It was only in there with some RTV. I just popped in the SilverStar slapped a little High Heat RTV around the seal and now I have MUCH better low beams.
I have not replaced the high beams just yet. I was waiting to see how the first set turned out. I will replace the high's with the same SilverStar except this time I will buy the 9005 replacement blub. The guy at the shop said that these would not fit. WRONG, they have the same elec. connection and fit perfectly in the back of the light fixture.
Not HID, but pretty damn good I think for 40 bucks.... No way would I pay $500 for a HID kit, with I wanted that I would buy a BMW M5 or Lexus.
This is a 6 year old V6...!!! For $500 I can get a decent torque converter....
