  • Tire care and preventative maintenance

First, I don't think this belongs in handling, becuase it's a maintenance issue....

I just got my new Kumho Supra 712 255/50/ZR16's yesterday, and will have them mounted and balanced tomorrow afternoon.

My question, is, is there any products or procedures to help protect and keep the tires' sidewalls shiny before they're exposed to the elements? Is ArmorAll good initial preventative measure, or is there a better product? What I basicly wanna do, is essentially pre-treat the rubber so they'll stay shiny longer

    Thanks

    -Mike

Hmm...i am not sure about a 'pre-treatment', but i have always used meguiars endurance tire 'stuff' on my tires. It is in gel form and lasts a good while. It doesn't give that oily look and doesn't sling onto your car. I love it.

DO NOT USE ARMOR ALL - IT WILL DRY ROT THE TIRES!

Use something else. If youre a fanatic don't use a silicone based one since it *could* hurt the tire. Although I prefer the silicone kind since it sticks longer. Most all tire coatings have some kind of UV protectant, just find something you like :D

I've used them all and I live down a dirt lane so I know what tends to not attract dirt. I've had Meguiars endurance gel. In fact I only used the bottle twice adn i didn't like it. Too much dirt sticks to it. I used to get the regular Meguiars gel, but I've grown past it since I used Zaino perfect tire gloss. Zaino has an antistatic formula in it and it lasts a very long time.

Usually clean the tire first with Whitley's Bleech White. But don't get it on your rims or It'll eat them away. Use a brush and do this multiple times. Cardinal is right. Don't use Armour all on tires!
