When the air actually goes to the air intake, and not just a plactic piece like on the 99up mustangs.

Since I have one, I can show you exactly how it works.

Picture of my hood, grill removed. You can see theres an actual hole there, unlike on a mustang.

Picture of the underside of the hood. You can see the air travels around the two passages on the left and right and ends up at the front of the hood.

Picture of the openings. The air comes out these holes directly into the opening under your airbox.

A non-functional hood would have no opening in the hood, and thus have no need for the air ducts inside and the opening in the front.

      Hope that helps :D

That's why the WS6 flows more air to the airbox. The routing on the SS Air ducting is gay. Look at those little openings. Compare that to a WS6.

The SS hood is actually just a cold air set up, it's not sealed, so it can't actually produce a ram effect. The WS6 is sealed, and it's a straight in design, the air filter is right behind the scoops, and then into the MAF, intake, and so on.

Actually someone did a write up on how ram air doesn't work unless you are going faster then any street car can go.
