• Car Cleaning Order? (Sandman?)

Well, I've been reading up on some previous posts about washing/waxing/polishing etc. and I still have some questions:
Is this the order to use these products?
- detergent wash (does it have to be Dawn or can it be any dish soap?) to strip all the old wax off.
- claybar
- another detergent wash
- 3M Swirl and Scratch Remover (can you only use this once because of the abrasives and the clear coat?)
- A polish, whatever it may be, Zaino, Duragloss etc.
...oh, and towel dry (REAL 100% Cotton towels) after washes

Would this be a good system for getting a great shine, no swirl marks, and a lasting layer of protection?

-Andrew

1. Wash of with cold water
2. Wash with Car Shampoo in hot water
3. Wash of with cold water
4. Apply turtlewax, leave on for 30-1 hour so it dries.
5. Remove turtle wax manually
6. Apply polishing compound, leave on for 5 minutes.. remove manually (roughly)
7. Get the buffer machine out, put on a silk cloth, and polish the sh1t outta your car. It will be as shiny as new

That is what I do always

After reading the archived posts, I'm leaning away from waxes and more towards polishes only.

I don't know much about polishes, but I can tell you that waxes are abrasive, so you don't want to be doing that too often. So when you wax, use one that last a good long time. I personally use Meguiar's yellow wax. I used to wax my car every other week back in high school. but now in college it's just not convenient. The yellow wax holds up quite well. I haven't waxed the car in like three months, but it still looks great, as long as I wash every so often.

Nah, I don't want to use a wax. I want a good mirror finish, which I heard polished are good for(that and protection) which I've had trouble getting on my car(Navy Blue Metallic).

Don't use cold water. Hot water is fine.
Other than that your order is fine. Maybe pick up a buffer to use.
Zaino and good towels can be bought from KevinSS of LS1.com
