  • Z06 Rims vs. Stock Rim Size Comparison

Is there any difference between the size of the two rims(z06 and stock v6 f-body?)

I am trying to buy rims but I don't want to buy new tires because I just had 2 replaced recentlly. What size rim would I need to re use my tires?

      my tire says 245/50R16 97H M+S

So I should look for rim that are size 245/50?

Can i get z06 rims in that size or am i stuck with buying all new tires along with the rims?

The R16 means that your wheels have a diameter of 16 inches. I believe the only Z06 wheels you can get are in 17" and 18". So you would have to get new tires.

okay I want these rims, how do I know what size tire would go on them?

(I am trying to find out how much rims and tires combined would cost, I have a little over 1400 to spend on rims & tires... I want chrome Z06 rims... the real ones, no replicas please help me out)

tires for a 16" rim will only fit a 16" rim. you will need new tires, mounting and balancing with anything higher than a 16" rim.

              basically it works like this
              245/50r16

the 245 is the width of your itre, meaning if you look at your car from beinhd, like your driving behind it, it's how much rubber willbe on the ground. bigger numbers = wider tires, 285's are going to be the biggest size you can go without having to pound your wells.

the 50 number is how "thick" the tire is. the bigger the number the more rubber will be around your rim. low profile tires have a number of say, 20. 17 in rims usually have a number of 45.

the r number is your rim size.

so a 17 in. rim would have a number like this:
              285/45r17.....got it?

also, your going to pay an arm and a leg for real z06 chrome rims. i was lucky and got them off of ebay for super cheap, but that was the deal of a lifetime. try your luck with ebay, otherwise get ready to shell out that dough!

You would spend 1400 on real Z06 rims alone, and have nothing left over for tires.

The ones you linked are replicas. I would suggest all 4 the same size, either 17x9.5 or 18x9.5 with around +56 offset.

For tires you will want 275/40R17 or 275/35R18 depending on whether you go with the 17" or 18" wheel.

And just be aware, because I know you ordered the HP Tuners, those big chrome wheels and fat tires are going to add half a second to your ET.

Whats your reasoning behind getting both the same size?

If those are replicas too I might as well go with the cheaper ones..
                      Replicas
                      669 + 89 shipping for all 4

Then I would have around 640 to spend on new tires.

I will be keeping my other rims as a spare set.. for race days

God, those are such beautiful wheels... oh, wait.. I have those!! lol Hey Matt, contact TomZ if you want them. He is great to deal with. He'll even mount tires on em' and ship em' to your door. My setup altogether cost around 2g's though. I have 18x9.5's with BFG GForce KD's. He can probably do something for ya (maybe put cheaper tires on them or something for less money so that you stick to your budget). If you want a pic... I'll email one to ya!

Staggered wheels can look good, but if you also go with directional tires then you can't rotate. Might not be a big deal. Can save you some money on tires only having to get 18's for the rear instead of all around.

I would be leary of running chrome wheels in PA winters. At the very least you will want to hose them off regularly when they start spreading chemicals around. The other option is to keep your stock wheels for winter, but then you've got all-seasons on them probably, which isn't the best for track days. Heh, you almost need 3 sets of wheels.

If you look around on eBay, you can get sets of wheels that include both the wheels and tires. Also, a lot of retailers will do the same combos and mount the tires for free. If you order them separately, remember that you're gonna hafta shell out another $100 or so to have them mounted and balanced.

The being said, if you're patient keep your eye out for deals on message boards too. I got my black Z06 motorsports with new tires for $800 total. Although, I had a steal of a deal.

X2 on the vote for same size all 4 corners... Its nice to rotate tires especially if you are a performance enthusiust... you tend to take corners hard and come off lines hard. Tires last longer if you rotate them while doing this.
