when I bought my 2002 firebird it didn't even have it on there..lol

Do i need that pad thats on the underside of the hood ??

My 2002 did not come with one. No evidence of heat being a problem. I think the factory puts on the pad to reduce noise from the engine.
You're better off without it. I have a problem with pack rats where I park. They like to chew up hood pads. Makes a real mess. I just had to remove the pad from my '93 Mustang because of that.
