  • anyone (hockeyman or david!) who knows anything about spray guns, look here.

im going to invest in a spray gun. in the past ive used other people's stuff and i dont know what gun to get exactly. is hlpv what i want? i know i want gravity feed, but what about the other stuff this comes with. http://www.cumminstools.com/browse.cfm/4,59.html

does that look like a nice enough one to start out with?

If there is any advice I can give, try here: http://autobody101.com/forums/index.php
I bought a HVLP gun from ebay with alot of recommendations from that autobody site. There are alot of people there that know their stuff, and they give alot of good info too. I actually bought my new welder based on advise I got in the Welding Section.

The gun I bought was a SATA brand and it ran me $250. You get what you pay for when it comes to sprayguns. I've used it twice on my co-workers 67 Mustang Fastback, and it came out absolutely awesome! BUT...the air tank we used was a 100 gallon with an air dryer (de-humidifier) installed, heat lamps and a very low-dust garage. There is alot involved with autobody painting, but once you get the hang of it, it's worth it...BIGTIME!!

            thanks for the link.

have you ever heard of grounding the frame of the car when painting to keep the dust off the car? also, how did you seal the garage and still get ventilation. im just trying to think something up for my garage to keep the dust out.

edit: whoops, i guess i should have checked my compressor first. it says its only up to 8.8 cfm, so i guess i need lplv. this is scfm though, and i have no idea how to convert that to acfm (cfm). if anyone knows do tell.

I recently moved and lost my old garage which was ideal for any kind of automotive work. It fit 2 cars and a motorcycle, had a pit (excellent for oil changes!), yadda yadda yadda... I miss it something fierce!!

Anyhow, I painted the garage floor with a grey cement sealer. I had to use two gallons of it and they cost me $50 per gallon. It almost looks like this stuff when it was finished. The sealant made it easy to hose the floor to get rid of any dust before painting. I also hung large tarps around the garage walls just for painting. As for ventilation, my co-worker has a large fan that we positioned out the door. We turned it on low, and it worked perfectly.
