  • Rolling down window puts pin holes in my tint?!?

    All,

I have tinted windows and noticed pin holes in my tint if I put my drivers side (power) window down more than half way.

Anyone know why this happens (other than something within the door scrapes/pokes at the window)? Anything that I can do about it?

Since I started having problems with this window, I have to take it back to the dealership and I am afraid that they will have to put the window up-n-down numerous times while fixing it and I will be forced to replace the tint :(

    Thx

The driver's & passenger side windows each have two "felt guides" to keep the window aligned when it goes up-n-down. The felt accumulates dirt over time and starts to scratch the window and the tint. Remove the door panel(s) and you'll see the felt guides I'm talking about. They are right at the top of the door. Take them out with a 10mm socket and either clean or replace them.

I replaced all 4 of the felt guides on my camaro. I used a piece of heavy duty velcro (the soft half) and glued it over the metal piece. No problems since!

If it's the belt molding, then it would scratch the tint, not put pin holes in it.
But then that would be the only thing that would be contacting the tint. Everytime I was my car I would get a paper towel and wipe down the wet felt on the belt mldg. Helps to keep the glass cleaner whenever you would roll up and down and it also helps to dry it faster as well....
