Got 2 new tires mounted on my new polished aluminum rims, but I got a scratch on the rim that is VERY visible. How do I buff it out?????
They are are highly polished aluminum (chrome), but I can't live with the site of that ungodly scratch!!

    Need help Quick!

Mothers makes a chrome polish that I use on my polished wheels and it works great. I can almost guarantee if you use some of that with a buffer it would take the scratch out.

if youre as brave as i am... you can do this:

2000 grit sandpaper... followed by 1500 grit rubbing compound... followed by mothers aluninum wheel polish

the sandpaper makes the wheels very dull looking, and it takes about five minutes of hand polishing with the rubbing compound (and cotton towel) and another couple minutes with the polish (and cotton towel) to get them back to their original shine, but its worked for me every time.

what he said, but if you have a dremel tool, they make a polishing wheel that's made of cloth. i used that it and saves you a lot of physical labor. just keep it moving or it'll start to burn into the aluminum and make it discolored. you'll probably need something a bit rougher though to get the scratch out. something like 600. i'd try it on an inconspicuous part first though and make sure it'll look like you want it to.

Thanx guys! I'm gonna start the project in the morning when I get up. I'd start now, but I had a bad day at work and I think I'd probably throw the rim through the window if it didn't come out right. I have a dremel moto-tool, but I need to get a cloth attachment for it at Home Depot.
          I'll keep y'all posted.

          Thanx again,
          Marc

Started with 1500 grit sandpaper, then went to aluminum wheel polish with a cloth dremel bit, clearcoated them, and now you can't even see where the scratch was :D :D :D :D
            I'm happy again ;)

The clearcoat came out REALLY nice.
I polished the rims with mother's aluminum wheel polish, then put 2 coats of clearcoat on them (front and underside where the calipers would be), and they came out awesome!!!
Now, just waiting for the other two tires to come in, then it's time to mount these B_OTCH'Z.

            Thanx for your help guys!!
