  • Undercar installation Q

I am looking to purchase a set of undercar neons. Does anyone have a site or instructions on how to install the neons. I have no experience with wiring or anything like that. Thanks!

Where do you recommend i should put the tubes so that they would be out of sight?

I've got them on my car actually, did the LED's cause they were a lil easier to hook up IMO. I put the front one on top of the black plastic "thing that gets scraped up while driving around" the 2 sides are sitting on the outside of the groove where you put the jack to change a tire, I need to put up a piece of black angle to cover being able to see the bulbs, and the rear piece is screwed on to the bottom of the trunk. I won't be able to get pictures tomorrow but thursday I can see what I can do if you still can't figure out what I'm talking about

Yeah I've got neons on my car too. Use jack stands first before messing around under there.

On the sides, Instead of putting the neons right where the jack would go, I put them further back under the car. There is a "cavity" type area that runs along most of the length of the sides underneath. For the back, I tucked a neon tube under the rear bumper cover. Hard to explain but it kind of tucks under there so you can't see it if your standing behind it but its open directly below to spread the light out. And like AltspaceN said, I put the front neon next to the plastic piece that hangs down. I put mine "behind" the plastic piece so you can't see the bulb straight a head.

thanks nda0602v6! I had a chance to look under my car today after I washed my car. I see what you guys are talking about. Thanks for all the advice. I have one more question tho. How hard is it to do the wiring. I have no experience with wiring.

run a wire of equal thickness of the Neon wire to the battery, then attach the wire from the battery to your switch, and then connect the neon wire to the other side of the switch.

then you take the (probably a plain black wire) ground wire and attach it to some bare metal, try to find something not painted or use some kind of metal brush to scrape the paint away, you want metal on metal contact.

then when you flip the switch, power will come from battery, through the wire, THROUGH the neon (turning it on) and then out of the neon into the vehicle chassis via the black ground wire... then back to the battery.

its a lot like water... the electricity needs a complete path. just make sure that everything coming from the battery winds up grounded at some point...

what does an electrical path have to do with water?

beware drilling in the actual frame portion of car. the modern fbody (and many other cars) use 'hydro-pressed' forming techniques to create the framing. Hydro pressed frames can develope integrity issues when it is drilled rather than welded. Welding is ok, cuting, drilling is not recommended. ask around at body shops and stuff. over time drilling in hydro pressed frame can be a bad thing.
