the person who owned the car before me, didn't do a very god job keeping the wheels clean of brake dust, are there any good products i can use to clean the tough spots, is it possible to restore them to almost perfect condition, or is it time to get new wheels. thanks for the help

Try using Mother's Wheel Cleaner in the yellow bottle. That stuff is awesome!! After that, you might need to get into some "elbow grease" with a toothbrush. If the wheels are pitting, it is time for something else.

For the really tough spots i've been known to use a paint cleaner/polish, it always works for me, but I wax my rims all the time too...

Those Mag cleaners will eat the clearcoat off the rims and they will start cracking the paint
