New tint on my side windows. VERY dark (Updated with a how-to writeup!!)

My drivers side tint got scratched all up this past spring when the window retainer broke and exposed bare metal to the film.

At any rate, I decided to retint the driver and passenger side windows dark. really dark.

I came across some Metalized 2.5% film. I couldn't resist.

I bought 3 rolls. (1 extra in case I fukced up - which I did)

All I can say is W O W!








Compare it to the deep-tinted T-top.

i dont think ive ever actually seen 2.5 on a car. how dark is it at night? can you see the car next to you or what :eek:

Seriously though I havn't got to drive it much at night yet. Just finished this evening. I think it's going to be fine around town but out where there's not city lights it will be worse than the old 5% i had on my old car, and that was bad. It's all worth it to look that good during the day tho :D

Legal limit in MT is 28% But tint is a secondary offense, simliar to what seat belt laws are up here. Meaning, an officer can't pull me over just for the tint. I can be pulled over for something else, and then ticketed. This is the only reason I did it.

I just got some 1% off ebay...I'm gonna try that out for now and maybe switch to something a little lighter at the end of summer.

I thing I am going to seal off my side windows with some sheet metal, and paint it black, I mean who needs to see out the side windows. A car drives foward, not to the side.

Tinting the window makes the car looks so good, I would go that dark, if I could get away with it. [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

I'm not going to use sheet metal, just paint the window itself, do you think I should primer it first.
:D The tint looks good. Weird seeing the side windows darker than the T-tops.

Im gonna go with 30 all the way around, But I dont know what to do with the windshild. Should I just tint the top of it 30? Or dont do anything to it..

I have 5% on my car on all glass and you can't see in at all, but those pics show the interior through your windows. Are you sure it's 2.5%? 5% looks a hell of alot darker.
