Rock Chips & Bugs On Front Bumper

Hey-

I have a 1999 Black Firebird, and, when I bought it, there were some light speckles of rock chips/bug smatter on the front bumper near the license plate area. As of lately, it's been getting easier to see from far away (little white specks) and I'm getting tired of it. I've seen some of all of your pictures, and I dunno how on earth you keep your black Firebird's front bumpers so clean from bug and rock chips.


Any ideas on how I can inexpensively fix this...?

Well if it just bugs on your bumper you are looking to remove you can go to your auto store and buy a can of regular gojo do not get the kind with the pumus in it that will scratch your car. If you take a towel and rub that in and let it sit, then come back and use a little elbow action you can remove them. If these are paint chips from rocks and bugs the only thing you can do is pick up some touch up paint at your dealer or pep boys and hope for the best.

i've been having a problem like this lately also.

sometime within the last 2 weeks a big chunk out of the paint came off (so there was this big white dot on my front bumper). So i took some touch up paint to it and that worked fine. However, now even more of it is starting to chip off. So i put some more touch up paint on it, and then went to put a coat of spraypaint clear coat (i had some leftover from when i did my interior). MAN WAS THAT A BAD IDEA. Instead of the clear coat keeping the paint down and keeping it from chipping more, it did the opposite and starting peeling up.

anyone have an ideas on what i can do to keep the paint from chipping even more?

Problem is...I can't tell whether these are rock chips, bugs, or tar.

They are little white specks that are heavily on my front bumper near my license plate and a little on my headlights, which irritate me throughly, because there is a black Tranny that drives around town, and his front is SPOTLESS...

As much as I love my car, I'm a bit embarassed driving around cuz it looks like a white speckled bumper, and it sorta detracts from the "oh look a firebird" expression ^_^;.

I need to find some way to tell what they are...and how do I know what paint matches...and are their any negative consequences to doing it?

Keep in mind that there are some specks on the metal headlight and on the front bumper.

Well like before the gojo will remove any tar and bugs, if it is rock chips then of course it will not work.

If you are going to try using some touch up paint you can either go to the dealer and when you give them the year and make of your car they will be able to pull the correct paint code for it, same goes for any pep boys. You can just look up in the booklet there and cross reference your car with the colors they have and it will match.

One of my closest girlfriend's dad works at a Town and Country in town, and when I still drove my Intrepid before I had my Firebird, I had him do some work on it and it turned out really nice, and it was free, too!

Hopefully I'll be able to get him to do that, although I can wait for a bit if necessary, but I will let you guys know how it turns out...

i know some of you have repainted your bumpers before, how much did it cost you guys?

you could just get it repainted and get those clear scratch/chip resistent cover thing by 3M.

i had the guy who painted my gfx paint my bumper for an extra hundred. i am soooo glad i did. it was well worth it. see if you can find someone who will do it for you for about 200 or so. it is worth the investment.

I've never used one, but maybe you should try a claybar? It might take care of some of the spots if they're just dried bugs.
