  • Need some urgent hood assistance...

The WS6 style hood I ordered from fbodymotorsports.com , which is an ASCD hood, arrived today. My body shop tried to put it on this afternoon, and sent me an email and pictures telling me that the hood sticks out two inches too far over the bumper.

I think they may just be installing it incorrectly. There is no trimming to the front fascia that they can do that will even it up, and the fbodymotorsports website claims that the ASCD hood will fit on any body style. Have any of you ever put an ASCD hood on a V6 car before, and have you had problems with the installation? I cannot believe that the hood is 2 inches too long, thats just incompetant mold making. I do believe that they may just not be very experienced in working with these fiberglass hoods, but some advice or help would be appreciated. Also, he sent me 3 pictures, that are grainy and rather small. If someone here can host them for a few days, please email me, I will send them to you. Thanks in advance for all the help!!

All of the hood fitting issues I have heard of usually involve the SLP Ram air hood, or the SCC raptor hood, or the Mecham TA hood, because all of these have to fit down behind the front bumper, and there are often clearance problems that can be fixed by sanding down the back of the bumper or the front of the hood.

This is a WS6 type hood, so its just supposed to sit on top of the front bumper, but there are severe lineup issues. Either the hood is completely messed up, or the body shop guys are incompetant, or else they have not done something correctly.

Actually, I think I just figured it out. They told me they had done ram air hoods before. But I thin they are used to things like the SCC raptor hood, or hte SLP ram air hood, or the mecham TA hood, that fit BEHIND the front fascia. The ws6 hood is JUST like the factory hood, it is SUPPOSED to hang over a bit on the center, and be flush on the sides of the scoops where the two ramping extensions are that seperate the radiator feeds from the headlight cavity.

I think they dont realize this hood just fits ON the front bumper, and NOT behind it.

Anyone else look at these pictures and agree with me on taht?

yes, it's supposed to fit a little over the nostrils. make sure the center area on the hood lines up w/ the lines of the center piece on the bumper. the hood nostrils are a little bit back from the bumper nostrils, but are still farther forward than those other hoods u mentioned.

Yeah, im driving to Houston this week to look at it and make sure that i have figured out the problem. The real test will be if the ramping portions of the front bumper that sit next to the headlight cavities are somewhat flush with the scoops on the hood.

I know what your talking about. I may have them shim the bumper a bit on the center if it can be stretched enough to allow the hood to match flush on the bridges between the radiator feeds and the headlight cavities, however, i think it fits normally around the headlights, but i just dont know. I will know more on tuesday, when i drive down to look at it.

Well, I went to see the hood and car today. They didnt remove the driver's side headlight cover, so the hood was resting on that, which is why it wouldnt go down all the way. In addition, the hood adjusters (2 rubber threaded jacks that allow the sides of the hood to move up and down) were extended, so the hood was also resting on them as well.

So all they have to do is align the hood properly, and it will be ok...
