The plugs on the end of the wiring harness should pop right out with a small flat bladed screwdriver. You'll see where they are held in. It may take a bit of care, but they will unplug. And no, you will not hurt anything by unhooking them. I did it twice in my Camaro since getting it. The switches can be left in the bezel until it is off, and then they can be popped out too. The reason I suggest unplugging them from the harness is because for me, it was easier to do that than it was for me to get the switches out with what little space the wiring harness gave me. The Camaro badge also pops out as well. Just be careful since the pieces are plastic. But with care, it should all come apart easily. If you need any more help let me know.
