I have never actually done this, but I cannot imagine that it would hurt anything. Whenever I pop my rims off to clean them I use a "orange" engine degreaser on the inside of the rim and man with a liitle brush that dust comes right off. But I would say give it a try and I'm sure with all the pressure the dusk will be removed!

I use to use Blechewhite Rim cleaner but they stopped selling it anywhere around here, it was the only thing that would work good. It was like a acid if you got it on your hands it burned like a ***** but never hurt the rim, just cleared everything off then i used another cleaner to makethem shine.

get a wire brush, and try to scrape it off dry, then get some heavy duty wheel cleaner, let it sit on the stuff, and try to get it off w/ something softer than a wire brush, but not too soft.
