Rear covers for seat delete

A dude on one of the other boards I belong to is selling them. Look like a good idea for filling the gap when you remove your rear seats.

surprisingly, those look REALLY nice, now with a hinge on the back of them they could add some very nice concealed storage area. or like said stereo mounting options. good find.

Not to flame or anything but $65+20 shipping for some $12 plywood and 8 dollar carpet at walmart.

Its not hard to build a box 8 inches tall and about a foot long.

looks good but the carpet could have matched a little better, thats how I know he got it from walmart cause its universal carpet.

Good idea but I thought everyone had thought of this at one time or another if they didnt use there back seats.

I like nikons idea a L shaped board with hinges on the back to lift up for storage. Maybe a little taller and it could be storage for two nitrous bottles?...

that is pretty neat. but i mean really the back seats only weigh like what.. 30-40 lbs? and now you have no backseat.

the backseat weighs like 10 lbs with the seatbelt apparatus's removed. I took mine out so I could put more stuff there, but I really like that idea on those box cover things

I hate you nikon. Since reading your post last night I've been thinking about hinges.

You have to do an exposed hinge (where the two leaves are on the outside - top of cover and seat) because one on the underside of the cover wouldn't allow enough clearance to open. If it were to go on the underside you would wither have to leave a small gap between the cover and seatwell or you would have to miter the end of the cover to allow for 45% opening.

The alternative would be an outside hinge on the front of the seat and footspace so that the cover flipped forward towards the seat. Again you could go on the underside of the cover but you would definately have to miter the ends.

OneBad9D5 - I know you aren't trying to flame, but the gentleman politely tells you to go stuffit. The carpet isn't Walmart carpet is an "exact match" carpet. The camera flash threw the color off. So $ in supplies plus many hours of research, failed attempts and finishing = cost of product.

people are stupid, why remove the back seats if they are just like 10 pds? thats only, what.. .01 faster? lets exaggerate and say they are 50 pounds.. thats still only .05 faster. i think having seats is a little more beneficial than having .05 faster e/t.

Actually you're wrong. The back seat alone weighs 13lbs. Once you add all the seatlbelt components and those two chincy foam seats into the mix you're up ~ 20lbs.

While taking that out will not improve your 1/4 mile times, what use do you actually have for the backseat? Im really curious. I mean, all that you can fit back there comfortably are animals and small kids. Anything you want to tell us? [img]graemlins/rofl.gif[/img]
By taking it out you have a little more trunk space and an excuse to not take your car when all your buddies want to go out and drink (that is if you are old enough to drink).

I hate you too. But your over thinking it. solid metal hinges are not required (but agreed they would have to be mounted on the outside to allow clearance. now if you want to go for the easier approach that to me would work just fine, would be two straps, not very long but enough to allow the board to pivot up and not bind, it wouldnt be extremly solid while opening or closing, but would hold it in place while opening and closing....the only other way of using a solid hinge would to mount it to the edge of the board, then all that sticks out of the top would be the pivot point and pin holding the two brackets together. only problem being with that is there isnt a flat surface to mount that hinge to on the seat back ( or where it was) you'd have to screw it the plastic (yuck) but the straps seem the easiest to me. ;) good luck brain storming. :D

Umm maybe its just me, but can't you carpet over the hinges.. or better yet make the box, and then make a top and put an extra layer in the top that'll pressfit into the box so that it looks flush and won't come off when driving around?

How are seats that are to small for most 10 year olds beneficial? I had mine out for like 1.5 years before I bought the covers then, when I traded it in I put the seats back in. I think I had 1 person in the back a total of 4 times. The backseats in fbodys are useless for people.
