  • Help with cleaning the rims

well whoever had the car before me didnt take care of the rims too well. they are just the stock camaro rims but still, they dont look too good. they have like blackish brown stains on them and its not rust. im thinkin just brake dust build up that the previous owner didnt clean very well. anyone got anything to recommend me for this???

I have this same problem. The brake dust has embedded itself in the wheel. The only thing I found that would get it off completely is rubbing alcohol. But besure to finish with come sort of polish. Also, clay works pretty good.

Take some 000 steel wool to them, then re-clearcoat them. If you clean them, the dust/dirt will just find it's way back into the cracks within time. Clearcoat will fill in the gaps, give a nice shine, and make it alot easier to clean your rims.
I used the clearcoat that was sold at PepBoys, in the spraypaint aisle. Says it's made for rims.

You can try to compound it off, if it's not too hard to get too.

Try clay bar! That stuff works wonders.

i heard paint thinner works good...but wouldn't that ruin the rims somehow?
